That was pretty much how our surgery did the vaccines today, very impressive, got the nurse to look at my hand and whilst is is still hot and swollen she said it's not infected. Actually the swelling is reducing slightly so hopefully it should be ok.I have a friend who lives near Totnes and under normal circumstances I go at least once a year. Lovely little place. I also like Dartmouth, we usually go for a mooch round there too.Derbys figures were 24 yesterday. Apparently if it goes to 25 then some restrictions, and 50 means lockdown. Well that what my DIL read.Dr Michael Mosley did an interesting piece in the Daily Mail today. I like him, good doctor with plain common sense. There's a quizz for risk factors. Apparently mine is 3 so I'm pleased with that. I thought it would be higher.Ps to clarify.......the risk factor means likely risk of complications and needing hospitalisation. Obviously you can still catch Covid even if you score 0.4

I got 0 on that quiz. My husband got 2.2

I find the age of the person less important but good style is ageless.
My issue is that I need to edit my wardrobe of leftovers, hand me downs that do not fit well. I have a few jackets that don't fit well on the shoulder and nothing will ever fix them. I have to be honest with myself and keep only what suits my shoulder width and body shape.
I am terrible for outfit planning- my outfits can be really good or looking like I'm dressed like someone who ran through a hedge backward. I have to start proactively outfit planning to have better days.4 -
I like Dartmouth particularly from the river, all the multi coloured houses look so nice. I went to a do at the naval college once, that was amazing. I don't think we will be going on many more jaunts for a while.
I did the quiz and my score was 2 because of my age, poor DH was 8 so that is worrying.4 -
Pixie.......You are right, jaunts will be a bit thin on the ground for the foreseeable future. I heard today that Sadiq has said no NYE fireworks in London this year.I'm mentally preparing myself for a good six months, maybe longer. Not necessarily full lockdown of course, but certainly some restrictions. I will be happy enough if I can just see my family. Seeing friends In the flesh would be a bonus, otherwise it will have to be meeting up via technology.I can live without holidays, restaurants, theatre and cinema for a bit longer. They will be all the sweeter when they do eventually happen. My son has set me up with Disney so I'm looking forward to a winter of all my favourite Disney films plus I'm going to settle down with some boxed sets, series I have missed and ones I can happily watch again.Loving the video and blog suggestions.6

I have not been sleeping well. Everyone is saying the same here. It might be a change in humidity or something but everyone is shattered in work and people we encounter. My fitbit recorded 5 hours most nights last week with loads of restlessness.
I'm planning on resting tomorrow as you need a break from gym activity for a day.
I think I will do a mini edit and get rid of a few items that are never going to be worn and pull out summer gear and bring in winter clothes. Imagine having a climate with really seasonal variation- it is the same nearly year round with an extra baselayer.
I get the flu vaccine yearly- I have done so for nearly 20 years. I might get a slightly sore arm but none worse than carrying a shopping bag. If it can protect me and someone else- I'm first in line. If I can keep as well as possible I will do anything- I use a health monitoring App from my pension and insurance company. It along with the fitbit motivate me to do better but these devices don't log every step or swim lap 100% so I don't mind too much. As LL says persistence pays off- so we have to keep maintaining and making the better decision daily.
I took a leaf out of sugar's book. I stocked up with Persil as it was on offer and will do me for a few months at least. Food-wise I'm okay for the winter as have loads of shelf-stable gluten-free oats bought on offer, spices, beans, and some gluten-free pasta. I have the freezer packed with meat and that will last a while as I try and eat meat-free at least half the time, if not more. I had marinated tofu with roasted veg yesterday and today tofu stirfry (no oil) and lentil soup. I prefer to eat less processed meat and have a smaller amount of low-fat cuts of higher quality instead.
wednesday is right it will be hard this winter but we as a group are resilient- we have the skills to get through this. Whilst the collective experiences may be limited we have to just get on with it as best we can by planning ahead and limiting risk.

Good morning lovely ladies.Well how are we all.Sorry to hear of your sleep issues SFT. Hope you can get your pattern back soon. I have periods of sleeplessness and it can be very trying. I found a practice called "sleep hygiene" very useful. Basically it's getting yourself into a nightly routine, doing the same things each evening. Apparently your body gets used to the routine and recognises the signals to start winding down and preparing for sleep. One of the biggest no no's for me is screen time. So no iPad or mobile in the evening for at least an hour before bedtime, no tech in the bedroom. In fact I try not to use my iPad after around 7pm, not even online shopping, It does seem to help. If I forget I really notice a difference to my sleep quality. So far no adverse effects from my flu jab, just a slightly sore arm. The nurse advised me to inject the same arm as my poorly hand so at least I have one good arm, fortunately my dominant arm. I intended to do some gardenIng today But I dont think I'll manage. My hand is still swollen and slightly itchy but at least it's no longer hot and inflamed so hopefully it won't be long now before I'm fully operational. 😂. I have plenty I can be getting on with using one hand and can potter about and just enjoy the sun,
My plan is to make this a gardening week and catch up with all the outside jobs and get everything ship shape before the weather breaks. I think we've got a few days of decent weather to come so will make the most of it.SFT. I think you are right, we are a resilient lot. I think it's a case of forward planning and being prepared, not just physically although of course getting stocks in will be of enormous help but also thinking about how best to use the time at our disposal.I am going to use this period to really get my act together, to put the finishIng touches to my house, to revamp my wardrobe, to save money by being thrifty and hopefully raise a bit extra by decluttering. By next spring I intend to be in better shape than ever - slimmer, fitter, healthier and hopefully slightly richer😂.7 -
My plans for next week is to get a head start on household things in advance of starting my new job. I’m so pleased I got the chance to complete all the DIY and organising I did over the summer. We are likely to see restrictions in London, so I want to make sure we are prepared. On a more positive note, my priest signed the reference we needed confirming regular church attendance. We have to apply for secondary schools for DS and need a reference if we decide to send him to a catholic school. Many of the schools are doing virtual tours this year, so it’s going to be difficult for us to get a feel for the schools, but we have to apply by the end of October, so do don’t have much time.5

looks miserable here this morning, I haven't been out but I can see a dull cloudy sky and the trees blowing about, we do get high winds here as so near the coast and at the top of a hill. I am waiting to hear results for one of my kids and one GC who have tests over the last few days, hoping they are OK and I suppose if it is positive the siblings/parents of one will be affected and the partner of the other. Feeling a bit anxious with it all, I'm going to order a big shop this week and some wool to keep me busy. I can't bear to listen to the news at the moment.
Good luck with the new job Chanie.6 -
Your 'sleep hygiene' reminds me of advice my SIL was given when niece was a toddler... be boring at bed time. 😁 So, nothing that will stimulate in the lead up.
I do hope the tests come back negative pixie. I know many people are critical of schools sending children home with coughs and raised temperature. I know I wouldn't want to be the headteacher who makes an amateur diagnosis and gets it wrong. ☹️
My back is playing up again this weekend. It's something to do with disks pressing on nerves. It hasn't happened since November. I have medication but it knocks me out so I slept lots of yesterday. Today I'm just taking it easy. 😊6
