LAST THREAD OF
:bdaycake: 2019:bdaycake:
:bdaycake: 2019:bdaycake:
May I wish each and everyone of you, regulars, oldies, newbies, returners and lurkers a very Happy 2020 may it be filled with happiness and not too much dust.
This week will see a LOT of newcomers which happens every year, sadly many of these ladies and gents do not stay long. This influx usually means the thread is very very busy, please do not lose heart if you cannot keep up with everyone else or reading the thread, don't try to reply to everyone and please remember to include something about flying in your posts, chat is for the weekend when your home is looking beautiful!!! Things will settle again in a couple of weeks so don't worry it will return to normal and we will hopefully have some new fledglings.
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also accept that, sometimes, life just gets on top of us and we can't keep up, maybe because we're time-poor, not in the best of health and/or we have littlies who need us. We are definitely NOT control freaks aiming for perfection and utterly spotless show-homes.
Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. You're more than welcome to join us in the everlasting battle against dust, grime and gibble. The aim of our thread is to make those onerous tasks less daunting, and to support each other - and to make time for the finer things in life!
Please do remember we have to abide by MSE rules; each post should, ideally, include some mention of flying.
Thank you Valli for last week's thread
Every room comes back around next week so please don’t stress about catching up
THESE LISTS ARE ONLY SUGGESTIONS AND NOT A MUST DO LIST, ALWAYS WELCOME TO POST AND FOLLOW YOUR OWN.
Also adding a declutter mission each day. Another one where it’s up to you if you want to do it or if you need to. This follows requests from members who are looking to declutter. Fling boogies, hotspot clearing, cupboard sorts, drawer sorts etc will all be on this list. Any problems with this of any suggestions do please let me know.
A few of the basics before we start the week
Hotspots are any areas which if one thing gets put there, loads of other things follow!
Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc
Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.
Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a binbag and whizz around the house finding items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.
Swish and swipe/S&S means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis
HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for 30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. other music may be used if you prefer!
WM ~ Washing machine
TD ~ Tumble dryer
SC ~ Slowcooker
BM ~ Breadmaker
DW ~ Dishwasher
SOAADFA ~ Sit on 'bottom' and do 'nothing'
KH/XH/FW ~ Ex-husband and other not so polite versions
DH/DD/DS/DW/DP ~ Dear husband/daughter/son/wife/partner/whatever
OH/SO ~ Other half/significant other
NN ~ nice neighbour
Toxic (friend/mother/sister/whoever) ~ person in your life that seems to exist to make your life miserable
AF ~ Aunt Flo 'time of the month'.. nothing to do with flying but it comes up often.
ETA ~ Edited to add
Gibble ~ miscellaneous crap that appears forever homeless
Dot-to-dot ~ pick a small area (not a whole room) like a chair/coffee/table/shelf/worktop or wherever- thats your first 'dot' - totally clear it - clean it - and only put back what should be there - deal with what you have removed (not just move it somewhere else) then if you have time move on and do the same to another 'dot' -the idea is just like a dot to dot puzzle, you aim to join up all the dots and have a tidy room. The trick is to keep each dot tidy until you get them all joined up! All credit to AnW's Mum for this one
RoD ~ Room of Doom, the one room that feels like it is a permanent pit and cannot be used to its potential!
Mr S/A/T/M/L/Al - supermarkets Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi. You get the picture!!

Ok here goes this week!
FLYLADY THREAD PICK'N'MIX
I am adding just the day but you will notice it has a bit of everything in each day, but you are free to either do a whole room (all three levels) or mix up the levels across the week - so, for example, you might pick level 1 to do for all rooms. Just post what you HAVE achieved! Sharp-eyed flyladies will notice there are six lists...because YOU are picking and mixing. You might choose the worst room to really make a difference (and because you have the time) or the least minging because you're short of time.

Ooh the last list. Great thanks to all list writers who have encouraged us to get a grip on the chaos. And thanks to all of you for the mutual support.
Big hugs for ASB
Another social day as our friends stayed over and Mr N cooked us a lovely breakfast.
My sole flying was washing up, drying and putting away.
Then did a flower arrangement for friends we visited this afternoon.
Meanwhile Mr N went to visit MIL to be greeted at the door of the ward and told that she has flu so all visitors must wear mask, coat etc. Must say we're a bit baffled by the sequence/order of diagnosis: 1st a respiratory infection, then pneumonia and now flu after she's been in hospital since 24th.
Managed half an hour gardening before we visited friends.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.0 -
Morning all. Thanks for the list.
Will report back later with what I've done.
Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
Morning :hello:
Back to the paid stuff again todaybut it should be my last Monday at work ever as from 6th January I'm dropping to 30 hours/ week and Monday will be my non-working day :T The downside is that I have to relocate to HO which is probably an upside ( no more MM) but my anxiety doesn't think so. Although why I've woken up a nervous wreck this morning is beyond me - I keep telling myself nothing will be different TODAY but nope - let's panic about next week
I got up(Thanks ionafan
) and I'm showered, dressed, breakfasted and lunch is packed. I'll feed the birds and put out the cardboard for recycling before I set off for work.
Out for tea tonight to celebrate DS's 27th  birthday - no problem booking a table at the village pub :T
Have a peaceful day

Morning, back for the week. Christmas week away at my parent's was lovely and next week I'm away in the big smoke for a work week away.
This week is about managing the hubby and child's mess and trying not to let it run away with me.
I have started using the list function on my phone a lot more for my epic lists (shame I can't just cut and paste, but never mind)
Today is a minimal flying day - hubby did some diy yesterday and didn't tidy away after himself - obviously.
I also need to check the status of an online order that's due as see if I need to make any changes.
Washing to be done (as always!) and hopefully some fun family time.
Hope all have a positive week, what ever that looks like for you.

Hi, I’m a Newbie here! I left my very stressful employment before Christmas that involved working ridiculously long hours to set up my own business and start a better life for me and my family. In my old life I had a cleaner to help me stay on top of things once a fortnight, in my new life I neither need nor afford it so I am joining here to give me some structure to sorting my home and my life out each day...starting today! Looking forward to getting to know a few new people in the process too .
Here’s my list for today. I’m popping out to meet friends for coffee this morning and then to see my Mum so not planning too much today but Every little will help!

Good morning all
Thank you for the lists, last week and this. I’m making token efforts in between trying to remember what day of the week it is.
Today’s jobs just happen to be on the list - hurrah - finally I’m on this flying lark! For today anyway.....
Shopping - hosting a NYE dinner. Not enthusiastic, and DD is looking for an out. But shopping needs found and furniture needs moving. Hah- just where, I do not know. The tip comes to mind for some of it....
Strip bed and remake - wm already twirling with bedding.
Clean bathrooms. Enough said.
((Hugs)) ASB. Wise advice as ever from Valli.
More hugs for YL and anyone else in need. Happy birthday to your DS, Round.0 -
Morning all, thank you for lists. Paid stuff today but hopefully not a full day, so far today I have
Made bed
Unloaded DW
WM x 1 washing pile doesn’t seem to be going down but nothing new there
Swept kitchen floor
Will have a quick tidy round when I get in from work.
Round hope you have a good time tonight for DS birthday.
Have good days all x0 -
Out of bed; showered. Washing on line - bright sun and beautiful blue sky here - perfect cleaning weather (seriously - lifts my mood). Duvet cover swishing - will peg that out too.
Thinking of taking tree etc down today; cat driving me mad and one set of fairy lights has failed, possibly due to her ministrations. Feel, given the tilt it's also developed removal will be safest.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
