Similar to a previous post, this is how long it took me to get the wine:
30th Dec - set up Virgin Money account and initiated a current account switch. On the same day I downloaded the Virgin Money app and set up online banking.
11th Jan - my old account switched over to the new Virgin Money account. On the day it happened, I stuck £1000 in the linked easy access saver.
13th Jan - I received the code for the Virgin Wines offer. On the same day, I ordered the wine.
15th Jan - the wine was delivered to my house.

    It all went surprisingly smoothly.

To answer another common question on here, I personally set up the Direct Debits before switching, i.e. I had them set up on my old account. An easy and cheap way to do this is set up some DDs with charities. I would personally recommend Oxfam and Unicef as they allow you to set up a £1 a month DD which you can cancel one you've received the wines.

Latecomer to the party here, but tempted by the wine offer.
The account I'm looking to switch doesn't currently  have any DDs set up. Am I best to set these up before switching, or can they be set up on new Virgin account? The T&Cs seem to suggest you can set the DDs once the new account is open.
I'm assuming no-one has got the wine offer without having DDs?

    Cheers
Personally, I set them up before I switched.
It'snot what Virgin seem to suggest though. My email reminder about the free wine says this....

Here’s a reminder of what to do
Complete a full bank account switch using the Current Account Switch Service. Not yet switched? Visit virginmoney.com/switchmyaccount.
Download and register for the Virgin Money mobile banking app.
Transfer at least two Direct Debits to your new account, and don't cancel them before we send your offer code.
Credit your linked Instant Savings Account with at least £1,000, and keep this in your account until we send your Virgin Wines code.
    It’s that simple!

That seems to suggest that you can transfer them yourself? It's what I did even though they were on the donor account. Hope they don't refuse.Surely it doesn't make any difference for them, as long as they get 2 direct debits?

Lockdown has drastically reduced my active DDs. Anyone knows if the two DDs need to be active? If so any cheap way to setup new DDs other than PayPal?

See my post above - just set up £1 a month DD with Oxfam and Unicef. I set these up on my old account before switching and they were active. Just cancelled them once I'd received the wine.

An active DD is one that shows against your account. A DD can pay at different intervals - weekly, monthly, 4-weekly, quarterly, 6-monthly, annually. A DD is considered dormant if it hasn't paid for 13 consecutive months, and many banks cancel dormant DDs.
If an offer requires that a DD pays at a given interval, it will specify so. I am not aware that the Virgin wine offer requires that the DDs have paid.

If you are desperate for low-cost paying DDs, you could investigate whether small (e.g. £5) Curve fronted credit card deposits into your NS&I Direct Saver could be of use to you (with the credit card(s) being paid off by DD). Note I have not checked this out in detail myself.

I asked about the DD situation on their live chat system. The question, "can I set up the DD's after the switch or do they need to be already on the switched account?"
Was told the DD's needed to switched with your old account.
So to simplify things I switched my defunct Tesco account as I still had the DD's on there rather than the defunct TSB with no DD.
    Hope this helps.

All I can say is that neither of my two (monthly) DD's had a chance to be paid from my Virgin account before they sent me the wine code, so I strongly suspect that it is simply the presence of the DD's on your account which triggers the criteria.

Same here, I got the wine before my direct debits paid out. They were old ones that were transferred in by switching, so I don't know if setting up new ones counts. Mine are charity ones. The charity benefits much less than I did by getting free cash when I set up that old account, so I don't mind sharing.

    Ditto here.
When my switch had completed the DD's show up along with anything else that had transferred, like payees etc. Although none were due to be paid until the following month I got my wine code.
