And if applying again for the additional VM current account (I have one, opened in December) do I have go through the same process, in other words as if it's my first?

Seems the best thing to do ATM, another £1k with 2% interest, or maybe 2 additional accounts?
I've already opened up my second current and savings accounts and it took less than 5 minutes.  All I had to do was sign in, use the app to confirm it was me signing in and then most of the details were filled in from what I entered during the first application.
Yes thanks, it was so easy, second account now up and running now.👍
Talk about speedy, opened second account Thursday, the debit card arrived for it this morning.
Has your pin number arrived yet?

    Yes, arrived this morning.👍
If mine doesn't arrive soon, I'll contact Virgin Money to find out what's going on.

    Sure it'll arrive soon.
They seem faster than most other banks I've been with recently. I don't really need the card or pin number TBH but it's part of the package of opening an account. Of course if you intend to use the account as a day to day one then it's different, mine is just a means of getting the interest on the 1k x 2 and of course initially the wine.

Open this last night - smooth enough! Just waiting for the switch to happen next week and I will move my direct debits after I've ordered the wine! Interesting that you can open more than 1 account for the interest. I was really hoping this would be the year I cut down the number of accounts I have hahaha

It arrived this afternoon, thankfully! Likewise I am only using the accounts for the interest and nothing else.  But I don't want to store the pin numbers that Virgin Money sent with my bank cards.  At least if I change them to something memorable, then I know the PIN numbers are safe.  I just stash the card away somewhere safe, but not stupidly safe that I can't remember in 6 months time if I need them for some sort of emergency.

Latecomer to the party here, but tempted by the wine offer.
The account I'm looking to switch doesn't currently  have any DDs set up. Am I best to set these up before switching, or can they be set up on new Virgin account? The T&Cs seem to suggest you can set the DDs once the new account is open.
I'm assuming no-one has got the wine offer without having DDs?

    Cheers

Personally, I set them up before I switched.

I asked Virgin CS about this when I had to apply by phone. The CS person advised me that the 2 x DD's had to be switched, so needed to be "active" in the account that was being switched.

I seem to remember that one of my DD's had been paid out in the old account just once, but the other one had not, but was seen online as "active" and pending. The first payment for that DD came out of the Virgin CA shortly after switching.

The wine came through OK, but in my case, I had to request the code by phone because I had to apply for the account by phone. Hope that helps  :)

If you are going to the effort of doing this offer then I would suggest you get the DDs setup and showing on the account before requesting the switch as they swap data in advance of the switch date. An easy way to generate a quick DD is to add the old account as an extra Paypal funding source and buy something cheap on Ebay that you needed anyway.

Hi all. For those wondering about timescales, I have attached my recent experience below:
    • 08th Jan - Online application made (switch date set for 19th Jan as 7 working days notice required)
    • 10th Jan - e-mail - Debit Card Dispatched
    • 12th Jan - Debit card arrived
    • 13th Jan - Debit card PIN arrived.
    • 19th Jan - Bank switch completed, old account had 2xDD's so these were transferred.
    • 19th Jan - Paid in £1000 to Savings Account
    • 21st Jan - e-mail recieved that wine reward is ready - code included in message.
    • 22nd Jan - placed wine order - now awaiting its arrival.
So, all in all, a fortnight from start to finish, can't really argue with that.  :)

Edit:  25th Jan 13:25 - Wine just landed on my doorstep.  :)
