Is it only people who have had VM accounts previously that are have issues getting the application through?
I've never had a VM account and am going to apply soon.
I've never had a VM bank account, but I have a credit card with them. I had no application issues, it was a straightforward process. I applied last Thursday on 20 Nov and was approved instantly. Switched an old account to them as part of the application and registered for online and app banking on the same day. I got my bank card earlier this week and my PIN this morning.

PS. I did have an online access issue, but I believe it was browser-related, as it was temporary and it resolved itself next day, I didn't have to call in.

Well my shiny new Virgin Money current account is now open and the switch is in progress, but I reckon the process must be at least mildly cursed  :)

The application seemed to be going smoothly and opened the account with no problems, but when it came to do the switch as part of the application, my internet connection threw a wobbly and it timed out. It was useful to know about the Virgin Money home page->Current Account->Continue Application option, and I was able to complete the switch  B)
Mild curse number 2 came when I tried to fund my new accounts. I like to send a £1 first to check the account details are right, which was all tickety boo, but then my £999 follow up triggered an anti-fraud check. Now I'm entirely happy that these things are done, but it did mean waiting over 30mins on a call and then having to go through the security checks to get my transactions authorised.
So not the fault of the banks in any of this, and at least I'm all set up now.
All that remains is to wait for the free wine  :)

    This is not investment advice.
Your money may go "down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... I got all tricked up and came up to this thing, lookin' so fire hot, a twenty out of ten..."

My husband applied on Sunday and after answering the multiple questions it said they needed to look at the application and would give a decision in two business days.  However not heard anything.  Also he put my mobile no on application because his mobile is broken. Not sure if that would cause an issue.

He tried phoning yesterday and the advisor could see the application on screen and arranged for someone to phone but no call as yet.

Just received telephone call and now want proof of Id. I then received email on uploading docs and tried to send them and add files but it kept crashing. We have decided it is too much hassle for some wine.
  • Has anyone received the wine offer code/email yet? I met all the criteria a week ago and haven't heard anything yet.
I'm aware it's 'up to 31 days', but bank switch offers I've done before were much more efficient than that.

Most bank switch offers I've done take their time. And sometimes exceed their time limit.  I doubt anyone has received a wine code yet. Be patient!
(And don't bank on your wine delivery before Christmas!)

very much depends on the bank. Halifax and Lloyds paid within a few days of the switch, think Halifax might have even been before.

Both Halifax and Lloyds paid before the switch completed in my case.

Actually it simply very much depends on the wording of the offer.

Some wording says banks will pay within a few days.  And do.  Lloyds recent offer terms stated they would pay within 10 days.  they did.  I think Halifax had a similar short time scale.

Others have a much longer timescale - paying with 30 days, or whatever. These can and do tend to take their time.

See, for example, the recent NatWest/RBS £50 cashback for investing with them.  The conditions (for everyone) were met in October.  The offer said they would pay 'in November'. The payments were made this week, the last week of November. So, in some cases, almost 2 months after the conditions were met, but completely within the terms.

Or the recent Metro referral offer, which stated it was within 30 days of conditions met.  Metro took their time and indeed exceeded this for some people.

In the case (pardon the pun) of the Virgin Wine offer the terms state up to 31 days.  I fully expect the wine voucher to be sent out 3 to 4 weeks after conditions are met, not any earlier.

It doesn't depend on the bank, it depends on the wording.

(edited to add, 10th Dec, that it seems these wine vouchers are actually being sent out fairly promptly, within a week or two of qualifying, based on what people have reported in the last week or so. But I stick to my point above, which was that in general you shouldn't judge the timing of an incentive by anything other than the timing stated in the actual offer.  Z-man)
