#47 Reporting a saving loss this month of £287 - a tumble in the stock market has caused the dip. I'll just have to cut back next month to make up for it.
Think all the stock market is low at present.  I haven't counted stock market gains/losses in my monthly figures, new to investing but invested in 3 stocks (not a huge sum of money by comparison to some big trades i see happening etc) since march and I'm loosing money on all of them... 1 is a well known one so its unlikely to go bust so just a matter of time before i recoup.  The other 2, are AIM ones, less known.  1 has some good backers but is a long term play, hopefully it will pay off, the other one i read up lots on and was all positive news re potential increase in share price on some news so I invested, hoping to take money out on the rise but unfortunately the news has been delayed so I'm now treading water for a bit.. still hoping to cash in on the rise as i only invested for the idea of a quick return :)  Obviously i know there is no guarantees and any money is at risk,
Fingers crossed they pick up later this year or next as suspect they may be low for a bit with potential lock down and Brexit etc

What you have described along with “I only invested for the idea of a quick return” is not investing but more like trading or some would describe as gambling.

    Save £12k in 2025 - #024 £1,450 / £15,000 (9%)
  • Only a net £500 this month, due to the stock market slide. I really hope it's not going to be like March where it was a precipitous fall which took a lot of 2020 to recoup. Ah well, that's the nature of the game. I do look back fondly to the ancient days when you could bung your money in a building society and get 8%!

It's also the first month of my new car payments which will reduce how much I save. It's 0% interest, but if banks start charging fees it may not be such a good deal afterall and I will pay it off in one lump.

Good luck everyone for this next lockdown, I hope you are not too personally affected, financially or health-wise.

#20 reporting a modest increase of £476.56 but I count only the returns on investments (so dividends, plus interest and money I actually put into savings of some sort) - not a great month savings wise, but we did pay off our mortgage completely, so not all bad. Ooh, as I'm typing I realise I have omitted a £25 PB win and the bond that matured, allowing the mortgage to be cleared. I might just add them next month (although the savings bond is not a net increase, it is extra from saving so in my world it counts!)

  • Hi all,
#17 reporting £1600. On one hand, I am happy to have met my original annual target early but on the other, my increased saving is due to the impact of Covid on holidays plus days and nights out so not really a cause for celebration. I have increased my target to £12k. The announcement by the PM last night means November will probably be another good savings month. I have never been so depressed about the ability to save in my life  :) but I am very aware of how lucky I am to be in this position.
