First ever State pension paid into my bank this morning! £276 towards savings. Still on track for monthly target. Need some sunshine as my solar panels are way down on average.

Morning folks, I've been having a think about what I include as savings for this challenge. In previous years I have not included money I pay in each month to my personal pension. This is separate to my works pension where the money comes straight off my wages, which I don't include in savings here. The personal pension is there to provide added income in retirement as it's unlikely that my works pension will provide enough.

Last year I put £600 per month into my personal pension and will probably increase it to £650 this year. Since this is a significant amount I have decided that I will include it in my savings for this year alongside any cash savings and investments that I do as they are all going towards my FIRE goal. I might need to readjust my target for the year but I will do that later in the year once I see how things are going.

Another £20 put into my savings account last night.
Looking forward to receiving my money for last months election work. Before Christmas was thinking about what I could spend it on. Now I just want to put it all into savings.

  • This sounds like a great plan! I think I will try my best to at least save 11K, which I think it manageable. I'm at the age where I need to start thinking about buying a house etc so these savings could really make a difference.

I've been lurking for a while so can I join in please. It won't be a lot this year but I'm going to aim for £5000. I've a very comprehensive spread sheet which I fill in on a daily basis.
I'm going to include everything I can - from saving on the groceries and household things to selling on ebay. I'm not going to include ISA's or interest on capital etc as the money saved will be used. Hopefully there may be a little left over at Christmas 20

I need to save for two projects. The first is someone to help DH on an hourly basis with fencing once the weather gets better for about four months and the second project is someone to help me when he is incapacitated for about six weeks in the summer.
