Ours was a remortgage but just the initial application before DIP stage I think (they dont seem to do DIP in Northern Ireland) where they were checking affordability. Worth asking the question incase they can find out. Hope DG perks up, it's horrible when everything feels against you xMortgage start date Nov 2014 - £90,545 over 25 years

Sorry to hear about the job TG. Hopefully, you will find something you like enough to fight for. My role is not permanent either and I am just enjoying it whilst I can. Maybe you can look for something closer to your beautiful home? What I do not give, you must never take by force.

Hope DG perks up, it's horrible when everything feels against you xEven if we could have gone ahead jointly now it's best to just let her get some headspace and forget about in effect. I think it really made it worse as she's always had her mum to fall back on as a safety but she obviously does not now. She kept saying how I did not know what it was like as I've always been privileged. My parents were not well off my dad came from an extremely poor background and although my mum didn't she worked herself up but we did have my grandmother who had money. I think the main difference really is if you get on the property ladder or not. I did at 25 with help from my FIL £5k he lent us we didn't have a penny house new build was £85k and we got it I had no income. As you know I sold that one 25 years later for £360k. I do hope she get a property in April but for now I'll forget about it.Save £12k in 25 No 49

Here is another sunset from my bedroom window that's not upside down. Today we're going down to where dg used to live she's having a haircut I'll mooch in Waitrose and charity shops. Then we will go to her aunts who has an old cabinet that was DGs which we might upcycle. Tomorrow is golf so quiet weekend but will try to do some gardening and some jobs around the house.Save £12k in 25 No 49

That sunset looks lovely.
It's wise to give her headspace. I hope this doesn't sound harsh, but it's not your fault your DG took different life choices. Her pension is her responsibility or yours later as a knock on effect. She may may be feeling a bit of pressure I guess to get the ball rolling. We all have different starts in life, my family have nothing, I bought with OH at aged20, then he lost everything. We've been building up again for years. This last £100k on the mortgage is his debt in effect. He would not get anywhere near that amount pre his state pension in 5 years. We are saving as much as we can and I nag him to keep healthy so he can keep workingplus he has me

The great thing about big organisations like the one you are in is that you could get lost within the number. But it does also mean that maybe your are not being seen fully for what you could do.
To be fair, after my last foray into the other large organisation that I walked out of to be where I am now, I would not want to go back to a Head Office again. I agree the money is lower, but the piece of mind in a local organisation is better. More room to be heard and make a difference.
I wish you all the best TG in your hunt for the best job for you. What I do not give, you must never take by force.

Thanks Moneyfordreams for sharing your story. I agree it's not my responsibility but I was lucky although I bought at the right time and paid it off really early I did not have a big pension that I inherited from exDH in effect. With this house I'll be on the mortgage but not pay anyhing towards it. Dg earns more than me and will increase in wages however she will not be able to retire in 5 years I think it will be at least 10 same for me but she is 5 years older than me. I will keep reminding myself that she made different choices and I know I worked hard to pay mine off and I did not study for a second career late in life.Tallullah I agree big organisations you can get lost and it is impersonal I do feel I've taken a step back in terms of what I can do. I'm kind of a junior again because of the structure although pay wise it's slightly better. I'll keep looking internally and if nothing comes up I know I can get a job locally I do know everyone and I am quite highly regarded so hopefully not be an issue. Obviously don't want to be cocky but feeling confident.Just been to B&Q £70 later on woodpreserve and ova glue plus chalk paint. DGs uncle will paint the outside wood as he owes dg money so free for me.The cabinet was fab fits perfectly going to paint it a dark colour and then add some vintage maps on the flat surfaces. Possibly copper handles and DGs to copper horn above it. Bought the maps already 7 were for sale on eBay for £30 I offered £25 and there was £5 off so just over £22 with postage. Should be a cheap project.Save £12k in 25 No 49

Oh wow, TG, I have a really large sideboard/cabinet in that exact same linenfold style, with a drawer above each door! I have been trying to think of what to do with it forever, too good to throw away, but no-where to put it. Absolutely beautiful piece of solid wood furniture. I am certain it will be lovely once you have finished with it.

Sounds good Tahlullah just do it nothing to loose. Got the maps yesterday and some wrapping paper with vintage maps on them for the table in the pool bar. I really like the wrapping paper might look more uniform than the actual maps which migth not fit. Oh well we shall see might do the table first see what it looks like.Been to pump and bootcamp this week so two evenings feels good but still unfit. Golf comp on Saturday as friends aren't coming over now. Really miss my family particularly my mum never been this long without seeing them it's horrible was Xmas so 9 months now too long. Weeks bootcamp is still going ahead dg is very up and down about work mainly but I think she's also a bit depressed still grieving for her mum.Money wise well I should remember this is MSE pay day today got a bit on my credit card for joint purchases I have had refunded but is sat in another account. Every month I save £200 into Santander and £300 into First Direct. I used to put £100 into Money box But stopped that last month to save now.I need to find a pot for this latest savings target and make myself accountable for doing it. Will be good to get back on track again. Well should log into work but really don't feel like it.Save £12k in 25 No 49
