  • Thanks SH

I got two applications in after finishing, closing dates are Sunday.  I found another potential job, will look at it properly next week and note the closing date. There's a few weeks on the others I've earmarked.

My usual meds won't be available for a few months and I've had an emergency consult with a Dr. After running through my history, how the pain feels and impacts me, plus listing what I've tried before.

Twist to this story - the Dr read a letter from a consultant I saw after I moved up here, telling my then surgery to put me on these stronger meds. It's taken about 5 years for someone to see it in my notes. Three different practices, including one who received the letter, all missed it.

The new meds are for the exact pain types I have. I'm on a 10 day trial; if they work great, if not then I'll be put on even stronger meds, but avoiding being signed off.

My books arrived, both are brand new. The latest edition of the book I've been working off is about 25 pages shorter 😀
    - I'll condense chapters I've not yet done, then cross reference the ones I have to edit any changes afterwards.

I set a 2 year CC repayment plan for my college fees, but won't take that long to pay it off as I want the card cleared ready for the next module.

  • Well done on the jobs earmarked and actioned. I have at least set up an account for the job I want to do online. I have until 19.09 but don't want to leave it until the last minute...

Glad your books have arrived  :)
If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

    Buffer fund 0/100
    Debt Free (again) 25/072025
  • Thank you DIA, you definitely don't want to leave it too close to get it in as time can slip away. Having the account is a good step towards doing the app.

I was frantically trying to get a laptop the day my current job was at closing date, application was in about 4h before closing time. I only changed two words of my previous application for the new ones 🤭

One job has five vacancies, the other one job. I'll know next week if I'm being interviewed.

I'm pleased the books arrived today as I wasn't too comfortable working off the old one when a few things had changed, not knowing what had. I can get stuck in tomorrow 😀

At least you would only be bored for 18 hours a week if you go for the p/t role 😆 Good luck with whatever you choose
That is a really good way of looking at it. I am catching up. Will be back on here in a mo when i have read it. I am hoping you will get one of the new jobs as the current boss is not nice and it will be much better if you have a nicer one. Hope you are having a chilled day.

  • Thanks SW and SH, sometimes it's better the devil you know, especially when it's not part of long-term plans.

The vacancy with 5 positions is FT is a similar role to what I'm already doing, only one difference, from a money perspective that's great, from a studying view it's not.

The other one I applied for is 18h pw, which I would prefer to be offered as it allows plenty of study time. I could also volunteer elsewhere 1 day a week and potentially slot in a swimming session foe health reasons.

Not sure if I said, but when I did my L3 I swapped to PT, college in the day, voluntary work once a week, worked evenings and weekends and during holidays I did work experience. History is trying to repeat itself 🤭

New meds are better, I'm not in as much pain. I didn't wake as many times as I usually do and while I'm tired, it's not the exhausted tired I'm used to. I'll find out over the next few days if the new life is here to stay or a taste of what it could be on the right meds. I'm on two types, 16 tablets a day just for pain relief 🥺

I've done a near full day of studying, got over half a chapter done and if TomBo has no plans for us tomorrow I'll see about finishing this chapter off.

We were going to pop to McD, but wouldn't have got a space when we returned home, instead I put a deloooo order in and I've 'won' a meal for £1.99 😀

I have popped down to the garden, did a little weeding and had a look how everything is getting on. I'll start to get my garlic and other over winter veg in soon and need to harvest some potatoes.

Got my feet up, we're having veg bol for tea and I think we're watching older films tonight 😊

  • Glad the medication is helping a little.

While I understand the value of volunteering - it may be kinder to your body to use the time to reset / play.

My volunteer idea was only if I secured a 2 day PT job, if it's 3 days there wouldn't be enough time for study, swimming, rest and fun. The primary reason for working PT is to free up loads of hours for college.

I'm experimenting with the new meds (M1):
    - I didn't take it before bed, resulting in a bad pain night with badly broken sleep.
    - First dose of the day means I'm mobile a lot quicker than with my old ones.

I'm also monitoring which type of pain eases, how many doses I have to take and whether some don't change. I'm allowed two of each med per dose, but have only been taking one of M1.

Hardest part is remembering to slip med two in throughout the day, almost like a top up boost until it's time for M1.

The Dr who spotted the letter has an interest in palliative care, which probably explains why they were keen to get me on meds that make a difference.

We popped to T, I've stocked up on fruit and oat milk, got veggie burgers, veg and popcorn.

I've done a few hours of note condensing, had to stop after one paragraph saw me searching loads of websites just to find key info, so I could move on to the next. There's 12 pages left of this chapter and I should be finished by Thursday, allowing me to start a new chapter during my long weekend.

I'll be potting some sprouting ginger this week, takes 10 months to grow more ginger root.

TomBo is having lasagna, I'm having sag aloo with rice; aside from the spinach and some spices everything else is homegrown including the chillies.

    We're having film night again.
