Yikes, try and be careful with your dates SH, when things are more settled for you. It's a lot different when it's a family unit, compared to a couple or being single.

I only budget with my salary as TomBo doesn't have a set date he sends me money. Occasionally needs prompting, he's forgotten once and then had to play catch up. Which could have dropped us in it if I budgeted with his contribution 😐

  • Tombo sounds very relaxed about money! It would drive me crazy but if you can cope with it and budget without his contribution I suppose anything he gives you is a bonus

MF I am so very pleased that your energy supplier has now given you an account number and really hope you get a very big discount for your troubles, I would say its worth going back and asking for more regardless of what they offer (they can only say no).
Sorry to hear work is a nightmare and you are not getting paid for the extra as you should, unfortunately I feel your pain in relation to that one.
Hope you have a lovely day.

Thank you Ren, Skinty and SW.
I try not to let TomBo's way with money annoy me too much, although due to how he is with everything I couldn't risk having a bigger financial responsibility fall on my shoulders than what's already on it.

Managed an hour of gardening yesterday, but nothing inside the flat. The second bedroom has become a dumping ground and it's getting me down. I'm going to try and spend the evenings this week sorting that out and do the DIY stuff on my days off.
    - including weekends I've got 30 free days before my hours return to normal in a few months. That should be enough time to do the tasks I've got planned for the first quarter.

I've been mentally redesigning the kitchen and looking at different sites for ideas. Just need to save a decent budget to pay for it 🤭

  • Spare rooms easily become a dumping ground ours is the same. Most of ours is stuff waiting for warmer weather to go in the loft. Hope you manage to get yours sorted.

New kitchen! How exciting 🤗 look forward to hearing all about it 😁

  • Thank you Skinty, I'm hoping to come across a box of energy as I go through it all.

Kitchen won't be for years yet as I want to move the gas / water pipes.
Instead of it being a galley with units either side like a l l , I want it an n .Units down the side with the sink looking out the window.
I want granite or some other stone worktops, sunken sink, cupboards wall to ceiling on the one side. With the opposite side having a full, worktop with nothing cut into it.
All sounds great doesn't it? Aside from the gas meter is in the far corner and will be near the new sink position (I'm trying to find out what the actual regs are on this as there's conflicting information) 🤭
I'm too scared to price it up, but have increased my estimate to £10k, just means I have to pull back with doing other things 😊

  • I like kitchens where the the sink looks out of the window.  I'm also a fan of granite, stone or concrete for worktops. Your plans sound exciting. :)
If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

I think a sink looking out a window is a real plus. Granite worktops can be very expensive though. I like our laminate one we changed to last year - and so far it is holding up really well. When I looked into some of the ones I thought I wanted - they weren't as hard wearing. I imagine real granite would be though.

  • Kitchen sounds fab 🤗 I vaguely remember something about meters & water. One reason we couldn’t put a loo under our stairs as the meters are there.

If it’s your forever home it’s worth the cost ☺️ If not then I’m not sure I’d be cutting back & missing out on other things. Maybe you could source some bargains as time goes on
