Is this a typical mid life crisis i was plodding along quite happily until last few weeks when my world has turned upside down.

You need to calm down take a breath and really look at what you are doing, you have only known this girl a few weeks and are jeopardising your family for what is basically lust, everything is new with work and this girl so of course its exciting and if you were really unhappy at home before this might be the push you needed to change that, but it doesn't sound like you were so take a cold shower and put more effort into your family.

It doesn't really matter what you call it.
The fact is you deceived your wife.
Does your wife want to make things work?
Does she know you're still obsessed with this 'girl' at work?
Is she a girl i.e. much younger than you or is she a woman?
Do you think it fair to try to make things work (even assuming your wife is willing to try) if you can't think of anything but this 'girl'?
You say you can't bear to break up your family but what did you think would happen?
Were you thinking of your family when you bought the sports car?
Or were you thinking about impressing this girl?

My ex had a 'mid-life crisis' and started an affair with a girl half his age. At work. Which also created its own personnel issues for both parties.
I was unable to forget and therefore unable to forgive.
I suggest you stop smoking and sit down and consider what's important to you.

Is what a typical mid life crisis, I'm so confused what others are commenting on / jumping to conclusions with?

What has happened in the last few weeks to make you feel this way?

The OP has been edited to remove the details.

The only answer to the question is that he has not changed, so whatever made him discontented with his marriage will also happen in his new relationship.

You can get an idea of what the OP means by having a mid-life crisis by reading my questions in post #3.

I would also say that the OP's world hasn't turned upside down - this makes it sound like he had no control over what happened.
He has turned his world upside down.
It also makes it sound like he has no regard for the 2 innocent parties in all of this.
His original post certainly didn't seem to contain any regret for that.

Thank you, it's my fault and I didn't see the 'edited' part on his post. I do now and feel a prat.... 🤣
