I'm having trouble with the switch sites as they all ask you to put in your seperate monthly payments for gas and electric, i have duel fuel and pay a monthly direct debit for both, which you can't seem to enter on these sites, so how do i find out a cheaper switch or cap rate?
Any help would be much appriciated, find this all a little confusing!I want to be Debt Free! :rolleyes:0 -
Hi Guys,
I have been hearing that everyone should cap their rate but I am currently on BG's Click Energy 5 (which is the cheapest rate around) and using moneysupermarket.com I found out that to move to the cheapest capped rate would cost me £150 more. How do I know if I should do it? I really can't afford for my gas and elec to go up too much. Help please!

EDF energy 17% rise now in Elecy, 22% in gas. I heard MSE on Radio 2. Cap it is Martins advice. Dec/Jan 2009 another set of rises predicted.
However, given the slowdown, falling oil prices which gas is linked to - and the poor choices of capping - the only caps I can find are to 2009. There is no real shortage of gas, coal. Oil has little to do with energy costs other than petrol. Inflation has a lot more to do with it.
I can get 20% cheaper gas and electricity, uncapped. Assuming there are no riots/political intervention as they try to jack up prices again and again and again. And if they jack it up by 50% I will be worse off only in 2009 really by 30%. However, if I choose a capped rate from SP to 2009 for example, I will be paying 20-30% more for 2008 and 2009.
The truth is there is not much in it as far as capping goes against uncapped at present from looking at it and factoring in the expected rises.
At least you can switch when they jack the prices up again and hopefully thats going to keep costs down.so says another ordinary mug fighting the 1% who own the political machine grinding them down from on high...

Want to move to Scottish Power capped rate dual fuel using quidco £72 cashback offer at the moment.
My question as I am a Sainsburys Energy customer (Sainsburys used to use Scottish Power but now EDF - as I am a old customer my energy still comes from Scottish Power via Sainburys energy)......So question is, am I a retention or new customer if I go thorugh Quidco and move to Scottish Power?? Retention means NO quidco £72!

Phone your supplier and ask how much of your payment is for gas and how much is for electric.0 -
Trying to switch is like walking into a minefield!!
I have been on numerous switching websites today and had the following information at hand:
our monthly direct debit payment amounts
our annual usage for both gas and electricity from April '07 to April '08.
There were many 'best buys' across the websites and I haven't got a clue why they differed.
We have looked at capping but the extra that we would have to pay is a LOT and I wonder if, for us, it is worth the risk.
I contacted our current supplier, EDF, and asked about any better tarrifs but we are on the cheapest and are not able to cap as that is only available for non internet account users whose tarrif is dearer than ours anyway.
Think we'll stay where we are - it's easier - and we reckon that when one company puts up their prices all the rest follow sooner or later.
Bring back the days when we had no choice over who we bought our gas and electric from. It was MUCH easier when we had British Gas and NEEB.:D0 -
the comparison website states that if I go capped with the same company I am with until October 2009, I will save - £201. I don't know with the price hikes coming whether that means I will save any money or end up spending £200 more.
Maths was never my strongest point. What inflation is expected in the new year?
I'm trying to work it out, but wondering whether to leave it. If I phone up Eon and ask them whether it is worth me going to capped, are they likely to give me an unbiased view for my account?0 -

Think I am in a similar position. With E-On on Online Saver Extra 5, can't get a cheaper rate on comparison sites and if I cap it will cost 29% more. I know E-on haven't raised prices yet, but avarage rise seems to be maybe 20% so can't see it is worth me capping unless mega rises again later in the year.
Think I will stay as I am0 -
i'm on same deal as you, so all this is hurting my head!0
