    Hi

We are currently dual fuel with EON (Powergen) and manage our account online, so we get a better rate.

Is it worth switching to the capped product by EON to protect us from possible price rises, and is this still an online account? or would we be better staying with our online account (energyonline) product?

    Any thoughts?
  • I'm moving in to a new house tomorrow does anyone have any tips for me as i'm gonna have to sort out my gas and electric as i've never had these in my name before?

    Thanks

Eeeek... would love to Cap now (well actually would've have liked to do it earlier, but lesson learned). We're planning on moving within 2-3 month and would like to have a capped rate that we can effectively port with us to the new house. Any suggestions?

My elderly aunt and uncle are housebound and disabled and as they have the heat on ALL year their gas bill is already horrendous. I have been talking to them for a while about moving and capping but they "don't want the hassle". I've been checking on energyhelpline and knew that I could cap them with BG or E-ON and would hopefully save them money. I have managed to get them on to the BG capped rate (it was still available!) at the same price we were being quoted before. Now I am wondering if this rate will have disappeared now given the 35% increase and perhaps I should have gone with E-ON even though they were more expensive. Any thoughts?

ETA - Have just looked at the confirmation e-mail and it quotes the scheme as Capped to December 2009 which was the one Martin said to look out for. To be on the safe side I have e-mailed to check the rates.
  • :confused:Apologies if this has been stated before, but 20 pages are too much with read with time being short :j......If you are capping your Energy costs with E-on use their free number 08000563856 :T it took me 37 minutes this evening,( Imagine that on their 0845 no!)

    regards Eddy

  • There's a capped tariff on energyhelpline.com from BG until 2011. This is currently showing that I would spend an extra £28 per month on dual fuel but with the increases is this likely to be a good deal?
There is also a fee for leaving early which is around £100

    What to do??!!

I've done a price comparison and the cheapest result came out as:

Npower expected annual cost £1,040, saving £611 (37%) on current tariff.

Scottish Power fixed 2009 came on their website as an expected annual cost of £1,285, saving £58.06 (4.3%)

So, although the article says to check to see which is cheaper, the capped tariff isn't the cheapest (and I won't get the £30 for comparison site switching). However, with the first round of price increases being around 30-35%, could it be expected Npower will soon increase by a similar margin, thus taking them over the Scottish Power fixed rate? (and this isn't taking into account Jan price rises)

So, despite the fact Scottish power wouldn't come out on top on a price comparison site, it would be sensible to switch to their fixed tariff nonetheless?

Go on Scottish Powers site and your likely to find a cheaper fixed tariff if you do it today/tomorrow (but it'll be gone v. soon)

Presumably that's an extra 28 quid on what you pay now. BG raised prices by 35% today so a truer comparison might be by upping your bill 30%, as it will be in 1 months time and then compare...if you think you're likely to pay less in future with a cap, accounting for 30+% rises, then switching might be good...but there might be better capped offers out there (Scottish Power, Eon). Then remember there will be more price hikes likely in Jan. :s

Although there are possibly better capped tariffs, capped makes sense with all the price hikes. Prices are v. unlikely to be lowered significantly/if at all IMHO in the next 3 years so I doubt it'd leave you in the lurch so you'd probs not want to change.

Check for other tariffs but the Q you have to ask is....will the increased cost compared to current prices be cancelled out by future price hikes-it isn't an easy Q to answer unfortunately.

    Hi every one

I am so confused by this gas and electric problem
I was with Bg and didnt like the 22p for the first 123 units for electric, so looked at southern Electric but they were dearer at 14.64p for the first 364 units of electric.
Tonight I have switched online to E-on (capped to Oct 09) with 15 pound cash back and one of those things to tell you how much electric you are using.
I am wondering if it was the right thing to do, recomended by Martin but their electric is charged at 20.10 for the first 225 which works out dearer than BG.
I have 7 days to cancel before I get charged for leaving them.
I started looking in to getting cheaper electric because my bill with BG came in at 161 pound for 3 months, I should have just capped with BG and sorted out why my bill is so high. BG have told me to write my meter reading at the same time every day for 7 days and then ring this number they gave me to see if my usage is high or not.
It's so confusing I dont know which way to turn.

Well, I have just joined in with the fixed prices until 2011 with BG, I am a customer any way and just signed up for the fixed prices, 2008 prices, but stupidly enough I dont know if that fixed price is for before or after the rise.
    Does any one know???

So if you a customer you can get fixed prices.
