  • Can any one advise me.

Im currently with Npower by currentTariff -sign online 23 ends 6.11.12. I have used u switch via quidco and can get savings of £300 by changing to another tarif with npower.

Will I be able to do this via u switch, and still get quidco cash back?

I also dont want to change until my old tarif ends, how do i go about this?
  • boxmilo im in the same boat as you ,currently with npower 23 online deal but their best tariff is £10 month more expensive.how did you get £300 savings?the name of new tariff? cheers. seems s/power 2014 deal is probably the way to go for me (no tie ins and piece of mind but is an extra £10/month) .as it takes upto 6 weeks to change providers npower told me i can start the ball rolling with 2 weeks to go [today] and that should be plenty of time after 6 11 12 but not too much over !!

Just call the supplier and they will arrange to put you on a new tariff you want when your existing deal expires.

You won't get cashback for remaining with the same supplier.

The unit prices are irrelevant, the total annual cost which the comparison sites provide is the important number. :)
I believe the opposite. How many people have switched only to find that the low 'guesstimate' was hiked after they signed up?
The only thing I trust is the actual unit price. And that's all you need - the unit price of each tariff clearly displayed on the company website. But so often all you get is 'examples' or a monthly quote, say, over the phone.
Unfortunately some suppliers muddy the water by charging different rates within the same tariff over a certain level of consumption.

What do you mean by guestimate?

The comparison sites calculate the total annual cost based on the kWh figures you supply.
If those figures (or ones the comparison site uses as an estimate because you don't know them yourself) vary from what you actually end up consuming, of course the supplier will eventually end up changing the monthly amount you are required to pay. That will apply even if you do the calculation.

What you may miss out though when you do the calculation is the myriad of various other costs and discounts that may apply, especially as you appear to have difficulty just handling 2 tier pricing.

The total annual cost is the important figure as Wywth says.
The comparison sites calculate this for you :)

    Its Npower
Energy Online January 2014. I had the actual usage from last year from N power.

  • I'm more confused than Scooby Doo here. I'm currently looking online for a better deal for my mum, who gets both gas and electricity from British Gas. All i seem to be reading about is cash-back, tie ins, rise and fall and free wine.
Overall, who is going to be the cheapest come the end of November?
My brother-inlaw had a letter from BG saying that they would guarantee no price hikes untill winter 2014, but if their prices dropped, then so would his bills, ("Rise and fall"). Whoever heard of an energy comany dropping it's prices?
  • I recently (last week) used Moneysupermarket to switch from British Gas to NPower - which apparently will save me £120 a year. As a I live on my own this is a great saving although now I'm worried it has calculated this saving as NPower's pre hike prices - does anyone know if this is the case?
  • Am currently with ScottishPower on a capped deal due to end 30th Nov. Done loads of comparisons and can only save about £35. As I've got a £50 penalty for leaving early I don't think it would benefit to move yet. However...
SP have emailed me to inform me of end of deal..and offered me a Fixed Price until November 2014! This is longer than the one quoted on MSE but this one has a £50 penalty. Is it worth staying and taking this offer cos it's a much longer fix than all the others, even with the penalty clause?

I find the charging options really confusing with all these companies so if the politicians can help great (bit off track there)

Personally I dont like the idea of fixed rates - never had any experience of it - just think it could be a con

Anyway - just done a comparison on my £45 per monthly tariff for both gas and electric - apparently I should be able the save £200 which cant be sniffed at

The recommended companies for me are first:utiity and npower

Anybody tried first utility (sorry if already asked) - never heared of em

Also is it worth waiting until price comparison sites are all updated

Current supplier is Swalec or SSE

    thanks for any thoughts
