Hmm, I currently pay about £745.58/year with Scottish Power's Online Price Capped June 2013. With First:Utility iSave Fixed v4 March 2014 I'd pay £708.87 plus there's £40 Qudico cashback making it £668.87, so I'd save about £76 but then I'd have to pay SP exit fees of £51, so I'd only save about £25 but then there's the question of if I don't fix now, what price will I have to sign up for in June 2013, so it might still save me quite a bit to fix now :undecided

Simple this switching isn't it ;)

Martin says don't consider any cashback in your decision, as it's not guaranteed until it's in your account.

I wouldn't advise switching whilst you are currently benefitting from the switch/capped tariff you've still got.
Look again next summer :)

That's true although I've never had a problem receiving cashback from Quidco before, although it obviously depends on the company paying up and some are a bit slow in doing so.

Thanks for the advice, I think you're right that I should stick with SP until my cap finishes and then see what the situation is. I can't imagine prices will have gone down by next summer but you never know ;)
• Hi everyone, 1st time i have used a forum of any kind so go easy on me!!

My question is.... can anyone tell me if there is any point in switching from my current energy supplier, scottish power on their capped price energy june 2013 version b package, ton another supplier?

I have attempted to look at this but seem to be going round in circles, please help, thanks.
• Hello All,

I did a comparison search and was surprised to find that different sites gave different annual cost figures. I entered my details that I pay 25 a month on gas and 35 a month on electricity, with my my supplier being first utility on smart home tarriff. When I did the comparison search, n power energy online janurary 2014 consistently came on top. However their annual cost varied and are as follows:

energyhelpline.com - £504
Moneysupermarket.com - £657.60
Uswitch.com - £766.17

I would be most grateful if someone could please explain this variation, as I would like to switch to a cheaper supplier/tarriff, however am not sure what to make of the discrepancies that I have mentioned.

Kind regards,

hlee

Use your annual consumption in kWh figures - it's the only way you will get accurate and consistent results

You should be able to obtain your estimated annual consumption in kWh from your current supplier, if you don't already have them :)
• Hi could you help me out please. I am with scottish Hydro & contacted them today about a fixed energy plan. The say that there prices went up on 16th oct but MSE.com :money: states that the prices dont rise until the 26th oct. is there any way i can find this information out or do i just except that the price hike has already happened?

I understand the major companies have announced rises in their tariffs - but does anyone know whether these rises just apply to their standard tariffs, or is it likely to be across all of their 'variable' (ie non-fixed) tariffs?
Or is it just a case of waiting and seeing?

I'm just wondering whether the results in the comparison sites are currently useless (except for the fixes that is) as I'm guessing they don't take in to consideration any imminent rises...

Just accept it's happened already

I don't know where you are looking on MSE, but you can report the apparent error to brokenlink@moneysavingexpert.com if you like :)

well guys? any advice?

the one reason you would want to shift is you may be able to lock in to a cheaper price for a longer period of time, it just depends whether it is worthwhile - which all depends on your usage....

To check this first you need to find out if there are any exit penalty charges for leaving your current supplier, then second, use one of the comparison sites here...
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/you-switch-gas-electricity#cashback
to see whether any of the other fixes are cheaper than the one you're on, factoring in the exit penalty charges (if there are any)

of course if the newer fixes are more expensive, you might want to stick with what you've got for now, and then use the comparison sites again when it's nearer the end of your current fix

hope that helps
