    I've been Money Tipped!
    edited 15 October 2012 at 5:50PM
I've spent most of the day deliberating over which supplier/tariff to choose, in order to fix, but am still so stuck. The cheaper tariffs are from suppliers with the worst reviews/customer service ratings. At what point does a cheaper tariff become a false economy in terms of hassle and stress and potentially money taken incorrectly due to billing problems etc?

My current supplier has very good ratings but I can get cheaper tariffs elsewhere and obviously want to make a saving if at all possible.

Has anyone had good experiences of First Utility? I'm really put off from the reviews I've read. (sorry tesuhoha!)

    So confused! :(
  • I was looking around for dual fuel before i found that it was actually cheaper to to go for single fuel suppliers; i know it is a little annoying to have two companies with bills, but at the end of the day saving money is the main thing.
I looked around most the energy suppliers and found a new company called 'iSupplyEnergy', who were consistently top for having the cheapest electricity (only supplies electricity at the moment) and after searching through their website i seemed pretty confident that they were legitimate. I've signed up and had no problems to date, so would recommend this company. i decided to keep my gas with my current supplier on a fixed deal as they were cheapest.
over-all pretty satisfied to be saving 100pounds a year for changing to separate suppliers :)

I am in the process of switching from NPower to Scottish Power.

I had a look at an old bill and saw that I was in credit with NPower around £200.

How can I claim that back?

    Thanks

    Similar question from me.

Changed mine from B Gas and EON toEDF Blue Fixed for 2 years.

Am owed around £190 - will they credit my bank automatically or do I have to claim?

No claim required, but you will have to wait for the final bill :)

I would agree as that happened to me, i received by final bill with a cheque for the outstanding balance owed to me in the post a couple of weeks after switching.

I'm with Scottish Power and recently switched to a better discounted deal off their standard tarif. But of course that's not the same as 'fixed'. I don't particularly want to change suppliers as I'm on a good deal at the mo (I think), I like their service and haven't the energy to keep switching, (forever playing catch up because they all seem to hike their prices in turn :(). So I'm about to go to their website to try and work out if it's possible to fix at the unit price I'm paying on the discounted deal .
    I suspect not.

    Hi All,

Very daft of me... But this is the first time I've had to consider switching! (my first year of paying bills myself)

My duel fuel fix with Ovo is coming to an end in Dec and they've sent me an email telling me that I can fix or move to a variable tariff (and then they tell me the prices - is it normal that the fixed prices are lower than the variable ones? Somehow this feels wrong).

In comparison sites, Ovo comes up at the top (depending on what I select), even though I've told them that I've got Ovo currently as provider!

Does it count as switching if I select Ovo? Is it switching provider or switching tariff?
    (I'm thinking about getting freebies/cashback)

    Thanks!

(And sorry for my daftness :p)

    Yes, it's usual with Ovo.

Their fixed tariff have early exit fees. Their variable tariff (only available to existing customers coming off a fixed tariff) is effectively their standard tariff and has no early exit fees :)

Which comparison site is indicating it will allow you to switch with them if you have already put in that your current supplier is OVO? I think you've probably done something wrong ;)

Well, I haven't gone as far in the process as asking to switch, it just comes up with the top providers ordered by price! (I am thankful that they do the calculations to see where my current provider comes in the list!)

Hmm, I currently pay about £745.58/year with Scottish Power's Online Price Capped June 2013. With First:Utility iSave Fixed v4 March 2014 I'd pay £708.87 plus there's £40 Qudico cashback making it £668.87, so I'd save about £76 but then I'd have to pay SP exit fees of £51, so I'd only save about £25 but then there's the question of if I don't fix now, what price will I have to sign up for in June 2013, so it might still save me quite a bit to fix now :undecided

Simple this switching isn't it ;)
