Do you pay a separate standing charge for your gas and electricity meters, or do you have 2 separate KwH rates for gas used and 2 separate KwH rates for electricity used with no obvious standing charges? Either way the best method of checking your usage against your payments is by means of a spreadsheet. It can be done, I do this. I do not think using your phone will help here, a spreadsheet on computer would be better. I can let you have a few guidelines on how to set up and run the calculations on a spreadsheet once I know how you are billed.
Hi samsnan
Thanks for your reply. I do not know if I am paying a seperate standing charge for my gas and elec meters. Tbh I really dont know how much I am paying at all
I am not very good with numbers and get confused easily which is why I have been with the same supplier since I moved in to this property 7 years ago.
I didnt get a chance to phone scottish power today I had one of those days however I have logged in to my online account to ee if I could find any more info there.
I will paste below if possible
It also allows me to email myself my consumption data for next year based on the info they have.
It says
gas consumption 12895kWh
elec consumption 2862kWh0 -

I would suggest you remove the image in your post for security reasons as it gives the account holders name and account number.
Putting the annual figures you have provided into energyhelpline.com using a Glasgow postcode indicates you would be far better off as follows:
Gas
nPower Energy Online January 2014 tariff - £474 p.a.
Electricity
nPower Electricity Online November 2013 - £355 p.a.
Total = £829 p.a. ( a saving of £157 p.a. over what you currently would pay! :beer:)
Note that all the above are variable tariffs (meaning they may go up soon)
If you would like a fixed rate tariff, then the lowest cost deal for you appears to be
Gas
npower Go Fix January 2014 - £506 p.a.
Electricity
ovo New Energy Fixed - £372 p.a
Total = £878 p.a. ( a saving of £108 p.a. over what you currently would pay, and the assurance of a fixed rate!)

Hi everyone,
I have been looking at switching to Scottish Power and here are the figures:
SE SP
Daily standing charge 22.45p 0p
Unit rate 14.01 24.271p
Economy 7 6.12p 5.971p
Unit rate for SP drops to 11.848p after 225kwh per quarter
Our Economy 7 usage is currently only 15% but likely to rise considerably through the winter
I was all set to switch as £27 cashback with topcashback for the next couple of days but I have been warned that Scottish Power's fix to April 2014 will only be on unit rates and NOT on standing charges...
IE they can introduce standing charges after you've signed up thus you could end up paying far more.
Is this correct? Does anyone know?
TIA x0 -

Thank you for replying...
I understand that's how they charge now - the two tier rate but is it possible for them to change that and add in daily standing charges AFTER you've locked in? Is there small print that says the fix is only for unit rates?
They certainly don't make it easy to compare!0 -

No, they can't change the tariff for the period it is fixed.*
Any comparison site will allow you to easily compare
*ScottishPower will meet the Offer Product fixed price guarantee
unless it is prevented from doing so by the actions or requirementsof any governmental, statutory or licensing authority.

Hi , 2 questions as I am attepting to switch at the minute from British Gas. 1. The electric and gas bills are in different names, one is in my name and the other is in my partners name. Will this cause a complication when switching or is it just the address they go on?
2. I have just been online to switch to First Utility and got right to the end where they wanted DD details, as I am new to switching this worried me that I would have two firms taking money from me. I am actually on bills with BGas but is it safe to go ahead and give details before it is confirmed the you have moved suppliers as I hear stories all the time of complications (usually the other suppler being awkward).
Thanks for any advice0 -
Hi all
Please help, having never switched before I'm unsure how it works.
What happens after I have gone through to the end on Moneysupermarket, do i have to do anything else like let BG know we have moved or anything
So out my depth here, thanks in advance

Good advice from Wywth and worth looking into. As long as you have your annual KwH usage figures for gas and electricity you can use a comparison website to find a better deal. If your billing has two charges for gas and electricity, you are probably not paying separate standing charges for gas and electricity as these charges are being recovered in the lower of the two charges (I believe).
Good luck0 -

(or otherwise each switch accounts separately, thereby missing out on potentially lucrative dual fuel discounts, or suppliers that won't consider gas only supply)
2. You will be fully covered by the Direct Debit Guarantee offered by your bank should you have any issue with the Direct Debit Scheme
(which is unlikely - I don't know what stories you've been listening to)0
