I consider I have a decent grasp on maths - got an A in my GCSE, but trying to understand my usage/bills and the comparisons are driving my barmy.
For example money supermarket say there are 44 deals that would save me money, yet looking at just the top 2 offers the rates for the standing charge + unit price are higher than my current tariff eg my electricity Standing Charge (pence per day) is 14.80 (now that prices have gone up) if I switched to the best saving offered it would be 36 - well over twice as much - how then can that be a tariff that would save me money yearly???A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -

Maybe the tariff includes more components than just a unit price and daily standing charge?
Unless you provide the full details, no one can say for sure.0 -
Hi
I am just off the telephone to Scottish Hydro who has told me all the energy companies use UK Power for comparison as it is the only site that updates daily. Can anyone verify this please?
M&S are coming up as cheaper than Scottish Hydro but I am confused as their daily rate and unit prices respectively are dearer - I don't understand! Can anyone tell me what I'm not seeing?
Thank-you

I cant think of any subject that leaves me more confused. This is intended with all the utility providers suppling a large number of conflicting offers, then changing the rates on a regular basis. I now only deal with offers that are fixed for a term so I know exactly where I stand.0

In contrast to fixed price contracts
SSE energy are currently offering a 2 year capped price plan 2
Their prices may not be the absolute cheapest but.....their customer service is ace and the capping means that you pay current prices for 2 years with three added bonus's =
1) if the price of energy goes down you pay less
2) if the price of energy goes up your prices remain the same
3) and..... as a new customer you can get UP TO £100 off your first electric bill. (I was with Atlantic so I'll get £50 which is fine by me):T
By paying monthly DD and using on-line account you get the best deal on the standard tarrif.

I took out the EDF fixed plan BEFORE they increased there prices so should be ok.
It also contained a couple of bonuses
1) no cancellation charge if I changed to another provider
2) they would let me know if I can get my gas/electric cheaper:)0 -

We've both got a pretty good deal then:D0 -
Hello, I am with British Gas, but was looking to switch as they are putting the prices up. Any suggestions? British Gas have offered a fix rate, anyone else has this offer and is it worth taking? Many thanks0
