Hi - I am new to this, but have a question. I am signed up with cashback sites, and if i switch utility supplier through their u-switch link, I get £28 cashback. If I switch through the supplier and bypass uswitch, I get £42 cashback. If I switch through uswitch, then click on Scottish Power, would it combine the cashback?! Or do I have to just choose from 1 offer? I have heard before that you can combine cashback offers to maximise payout but I am unsure of how to do this. Thanks for your help in advance :):D
    No, one or t'other

Can't believe it, I posted on this thread 4 years ago & I've just switched electricity yesterday from EDF to Scottish Power.

  • i changed to another company after searching on comparison sites but just got an email from the company i've change to saying they'll be charging me the same and not the 11% reduction that appeared on the comparison website! They said they don't know what the comparison site quoted so it doesn't make a difference - If that's the case there doesn't seem to be a reason to use comparison sites in this case and I could have stayed with british gas :(

    Can I ask:
    1. which comparison site did you use
    2. What data did you input (annual consumption in kWh and supply region)
    3. what supplier and tariff did you accept and at what price?

Remember, if you are not happy with what you are eventually offered, you always have a cooling off period to cancel :)

So, Ebico's gas prices are going up by 10.5%. However, there are only two tariffs that'll work out cheaper for me, both from nPower. They don't guarantee prices but they do have cancellation fees, which seems barmy to me. I'd save under £20 over the year by switching but I'd instantly lose that if I switched out due to a better tariff or price drops coming along.

Think I'll leave it for now.
  • I was on the essentials tariff with British Gas. As they have ended this and switched me to standard, I thought I would do a comparison on uswitch. When they brought the results up, thought, hey, there are a lot that save me around £300 a year, but then saw the rates for BG. They were different from what my bill stated. I called uswitch and asked them, they said they have the new revised prices and everything is up to date, yet the rates they were quoting me were lower than my bill stated. I called British Gas and they said uswitch were wrong and don't know where they got their figures from.
This is why people find everything so confusing as figures do not match up at all, very frustrating:mad:

British Gas gas prices are rising by ~6% from 16-Nov.

Were you using current or new prices, did they include VAT or not.

You should be able to look at the quote calculation & do quick check.

When I've used comparison sites they've agreed & agreed with energy company.

  • British Gas prices haven't gone up yet and uswitch said they are using the new rates, still doesn't compute. According to BG, my standard gas rate is.....Tier 1 8.291 Tier 2 3.797. Electricity Tier1 23.626 Tier 2 11.172
    According to uswitch, it is Gas.....Tier 1 7.638 Tier 2 4.266. Electricity Tier 1 21.170 Tier 2 12.963.

I'm confused enough anyway trying to figure things out with comparisons as some don't have the tiers, they have standing charges and still show up as £300 a year cheaper. Why don't they all use the same pricing, it's mind boggling. Can anyone explain this?

Just call the supplier and they will arrange to put you on a new tariff you want when your existing deal expires.

You won't get cashback for remaining with the same supplier.

    Wrong.

I've had around £30 cashback each time from Quidco for switching (via a comparison site) to the following nPower tariffs over the past 3 or 4 years.

    Standard to Sign Online 14
Sign Online 14 to Sign Online 19
Sign Online 19 to Sign Online 24

On the first switch I also received £20 from MoneySupermarket.

Presumably as you're committing to a new contract they're happy to pay out.

I've today switched from Sign Online 24 to Energy Saver 2014 (using USwitch - £28 tracked on Quidco) and fully expect my cashback in a few months...

..if not, well the new tariff is about the same as SOL24 is now. That's good, as I received a letter this week informing me that my gas and elec are both going up by over 17% from Nov 26th. So, I'm back to square one, but shielded from the recent price hike, and (probably) cashback coming as well... nice!
