Energy: Find the cheapest supplier & earn cashback

Had a similar issue ordering from John Lewis through a cashback site - click through to JL from topcaskback (was 6% I think) and then tried to use a £10 off £75 voucher that came with one of the home magazines and it said "discounts have already been applied to this order" (or something along those lines)
It sounds like here moneysupermarket have recieved their commission for the switch and then realised that they owe quidco for the referal. In the end moneysupermarket have benefitted because originally they would have paid you £30 but because you have come via a 3rd party (quidco) they only have to pay £20 (via quidco)
If that makes sense?
MPI have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

Right, I see what you mean now. I did tell them that nothing on their website mentions that people will not qualify for the cashback if they go through a cashback site. Waiting for their reply.
Thanks0 -
I switched my dual fuel through Moneysupermarket.com to qualify for the £30 cashback. I accessed this site through Quidco. For doing this I received £20 cashback. Moneysupermarket are now saying that because I went through a cashback website they will not pay me the £30 cashback. Has anyone else experienced this?
Hi,
If you go through Quidco, you get your cash back from them. The cash back offer is not even shown on moneysupermarket.com when you click through so how come you think you are owed a further £30??
You would get one or the other and to expect both is ludicrous as they probably only get about £50 per switch so why would they want to give all their commision to you, after all they are in this to make money.

Hi-
As you have gone through quidco then you are "technically" a quido customer and were connected to a promotion by quidco. Had you gone through MSE's link you would have been subject to the £30 cashback as per the promotion between MSE and Moneysupermarket.com.
From what i can see, moneysupermarket.com, direct dont even do cashback anymore so surely you have got £20 more than you would have had you gone direct??
To me it seems a bit like buying a toshiba TV in Dixons, getiing a discount and then Ringing Toshiba and asking for something off them too.....:rotfl:
Sorry.....;)0 -

I'm sure there are a lot of things the wesbite "doesnt say".
Like the fact they WILL pay the £30 (which is doesnt via Quid co), after re-reading this thead, and as mush as i honestly would like you to have a point, i dont think you have a point at all.
Sorry, again.0 -
Ok, thank you for your thoughts. I see how it works now.

Hi all, I was wondering if you can point me in the right direction.
I live in the SE of England and I am now going to start to work from home. also my wife is expecting our first child in August, so there will be both of us at home at least for the next year.
On my bill, I have a day rate and night rate and I was wondering if anyone can tell me which tariff would be best for me to change to as we are both going to be at home during the day so I need a cheap day Tariff as apposed to a cheap night one but looking at websites like British gas, I cant see the different charges for day and night.
thank you

I would say you need to look at your bill to see how much you use on the night rate to see if its worth having the economy 7 meter, if you dont have night storage heaters or anything like that it may be an idea to get rid of the economy 7 and just have a standard meter.
To get that cheaper night rate you pay slightly higher day rates, you need to work out if you really need the eco 7.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
Get on to a standard meter quick. Most suppliers will change it for free. We both work from home and wasted money using the economy 7 meter without any storage heating in the house. Very misleading name by the way, the rates often work out higher as well, especially if you work from home.0

I've changed from Economy 7 to standard rate in the past and found there was no need to actually change the meter as they can just charge for both normal and E7 units at the standard rate.
It seems like it's not worth the hassle of getting the meter changed and it leaves you with the option of going back to E7 if you want in the future.0
