Energy: Find the cheapest supplier & earn cashback
Comments

I recently switched to on E-on online energy saver 5 through quidco. Received my £70 cashback pretty quick too. But now when i use comparison sites to compare capped tariffs, the cheapest capped deal is 29% more than my current deal. Npower fixed until 2011 is the most expensive at 44% more. I don't think I'll be switching just yet.0

Earlier today I reviewed my Electricity supplier's prices against the opposition. Whilst British Gas appeared to be able to save me a packet (plus other suppliers), the reviews I read suggested BG and Eon etc should be avoided at all costs. I went away somewhat disaillusioned and, for now, am continuing with my current supplier (Southern) who may not be the cheapest but do get good service reviews. The BG reviews positively scared me!0

I wish these comparison sites would show you the details for the tariff you're currently on, so you can check their figures are the same as what you're paying.
Anyway, I think I'm on EON EnergyOnline Extra Saver v4 (would be nice if they'd print it on their bills!), which according to two of the comparison sites (I can't even get past the first screen on Energyhelpine 'cos it says I've selected an incorrect tarrif for Gas) is the cheapest available for me at the moment.
I'm thinking of switching to Scottish Power's capped till 2011 tariff, which would cost an extra £63/year but I could get £62 cashback through quidco (was £72 last week).
Does this sound like a good idea, or should I wait a bit longer?0 -
I finally managed to get energyhelpline.com working for me and I found it does show you what your current tariff unit prices are.
Unfortunately, the prices it's showing for EON Energyonline Extra Saver v3 are higher than what I'm actually paying (I checked with EON beforehand), which makes the comparison results rather unreliable.
Strangely, none of the 3 websites are showing Scottish Power's capped tariff in my results anymore.0 -

Hi doveman,
Look here to find out why Scottish Powers fixed price is no longer being shown.

Hi Steve, yes avoid BG at all costs. I switched away from BG as soon as the gas market was opened up to competition due to w*****s in the call centre who continually promised they could resolve the problems i was having and i screamed at them countless times that i wanted to speak to a manager and they kept saying 'let me help, i can sort out this problem'.
Last year i had a really nice woman knock on the door at home and she persuaded me to try them again so i did. I checked the tariffs, she promised me they were the cheapest on the market. Well, it took them about 4 months to sort out the problems just opening an account for me, when they did open the account they had no record of the readings i had given them about 10 times, plus npower had sent them the readings. BG told me they would read the meter, Npower told me it was their responsibility to read the meter. BG are a complete joke, if you want non stop hassle for a cheap price then go for it but the amount you will spend in phone calls sorting out all the problems will end up costing you more in the end, plus higher blood pressure.
I've switched about 4 times and BG are the only company i had problems with. The other thing i noticed was that the saleswoman told me there was an £80 cashback if you take dual fuel for a year, i've read the smallprint and it is based on usage so it'll probably be a lot less than £80, will know in a few days. On the phone to BG yesterday, at the end of the call the call centre operative asked me if i'd like to save £108 per year by switching to paperless billing so i said yes. I got an e-mail sent to me where i had to click on a link to complete the process - guess what - the link didn't work, got a system error !Stuff Martin Has Helped Me Save/Earn

help, not sure how i am supposed to post this but...
we are with scottish power on a key meter, a major mistake, and are looking to change to a bill on direct debit, however scottish power insist on £125 deposit per fuel, which they will keep for 12 months. I must stress we are not a credit risk and only changed to the key because my wife at the time needed to have careful control of her finances, and did not have any debt with the scottish power company. can anyone help...0 -
Hi,
Please can someone advise.... I live in Bournemouth and after finding out my dd with Scottish Power had been cancelled, phoned them and have set it back up again HOWEVER, my bills have incresed by 25.00ish a month - thats on there cheapest rate!
They say i can phone every month to try and get it down... Having real trouble with the gas and electric checker here - saying BG is cheaper - but they are so awful on there customer svs, dont wanna go with them...
Can anyone help me?0 -
