Energy: Find the cheapest supplier & earn cashback

Hi guys,
I have not got a clue about any of this stuff so excuse my ignorance! I have had the same supplier for elec for 20 years(SCOTTISH POWER) and my bills are high(for someone with no electric heating) at approx £100 p month recd quarterly. My gas(SCOTTISH GAS) is for a gas fire only and are very low(less than £25 p month)and paid quartlerly when the bill comes in.
I know I need to switch and Martin talks about capped bills.
Today I was persuaded to sign up for NPOWER at the supermarket(but was told I can cancel with 14 days). They quoted me monthly DD payments of £85pm for both. No idea where the calculation came from and I dont know how much I am being actually charged for the power I use(pence per kw or therm or whatever)with them. Trying to read on here I dont understand how its all worked out.
Should I cancel this and try and switch myself or will it be cheaper(as they say it will). I dont want to end up regretting and having problems.
ThanksMoney is only of any use if you can spend it!:cool:0 -
Hi, energyhelpline here, responding to the earlier posts about us not listing some E.ON tariffs on our current supplier screeen....
We do actually list all the EnergyOnline Extra Saver tariffs it is just that our user experience is confusing some people. I apologise for this and we are going to improve things.
We have had a look at the thread and can see that some people are struggling to select the right tariffs for them on our current supplier drop down list when they are on E.ON EnergyOnline Extra Saver tariffs. The right tariffs are there – it’s just that they are selecting the ElectricityOnline Extra Saver tariff (single elec only) on the electricity drop down rather than the EnergyOnline (dual fuel only) one. You need to select EnergyOnline Extra Saver on both lists.
As ElectricityOnline is alphabetically before EnergyOnline it's an easy mistake to make. And I apologise for our user experience that is cnfusing people a bit here ....we are going to improve so that we make it easier to select the correct current tariffs on our site.
Cheers,

Sounds like you need to cancel and then use one of the comparison/switch websites to find out who is really cheapest for you. I think entering your last years usage in Kilowatts gives the most accurate results (add up the totals from your last years bills).
I never sign up for things on the spot like at supermarkets cause the people selling are only interested in their commission and will often mis-sell. You can always get the same or better deal by ringing up the company later on. I think they should have given you some leaflets with prices etc.0 -
Hi,
I was with Npower paying £80 pounds a month for duel fuel . The uswitch site indicated that if I swapped to Scottish power I could save over two hundred pounds a year . I swapped in Feb and my tariff was set at £48 pounds a month .All went well untill yesterday when I received a letter informing me that my monthly payment was not in line with my usage and that my new tariff would be £122 a month !!!!!!! How can Scottish power up my tariff after such a short time, surely three months is not long enough to make an assessment of my average usage especially at this time of year. I must say I am gutted there is no way I can afford this its actually a quarter of my monthly income .0 -
Martin said on GMTV this morning that it is rumoured that the best capped rate was going to cease on monday, anybody know which company this is as he did not say, checked on the comparison sites and im getting different answers...........sanfly0

Yeah I'd like to know too. My bill has already gone up to £75 per month with Scottish Power to cover the £20 odd quid I was in debit - only to find out I am now £55 in debit!!!:heart2: Cookiepops :heart2:0 -

I am about to switch from two separate companies to E-On for dual fuel. I asked that when they work out my monthly payment, would I be able to change it if it was too much/too little and she said yes. If I need to, I will move again if they don't keep their word.Thank you for reading this message.0 -
I found this article on moneysupermarket which is useful and mentions specific deals:

It is all so complicated - nothing is straightforward, similar with mobile phone tariffs. As I wrote previously, with the fixed rates, you are paying an increase in the "standard" rate, while you are waiting for the price to rise. Are we sure we are saving money?Thank you for reading this message.0 -

I left Npower for that exact reason, they put my direct debits up too high. Funnily enough, they can put your direct debits up if you phone them and ask them to do it but if you phone them and say you'd like the directs debits to go down the computer won't allow it. Not that i believed it for one minute but there wasn't much i could do other than switch.Stuff Martin Has Helped Me Save/Earn
