Sue, it would be very sad if this challenge didn’t continue, it’s been around for so long and helped me immensely over the years.
I’ve been looking through old posts of mine since I joined MSE in 2006, my first post was requesting to join the £2 coin savers club, I joined a Change Jar Challenge in August 2007 and then became a “Potter” in 2008
(The first Sealed Pot Challenge)I’ve joined many other saving challenges over the years but this one has been my constant for over 12 years
The way we shop, spend etc has changed, I hate using card always prefer cash, I know where I am with cash, card payments can get missed. My son’s however only use card so ver rarely do they have spare change in their pockets now, unlike 10 years ago
and the challenge itself has changed to accomodate these changes too which is good.
Next year (fingers firmly crossed in the hope you do continue Sue?) I’m going to go back to when I first joined and seal my pot, I may even get a tin so I can’t see inside and not open it until the official opening day which I have been sloppy on and admit I have done in the past and just see how much I can save. My very first total, way back then was £27.19 I was no. 273 and yours Sue was £163.95
Sorry for the long reminiscent post, have a glorious Saturday potters and stay safe

Added a couple of pounds to my sealed pot, excited to see what's in. Prefer cash to card as using money feels more real.
Not that I have been anywhere (was shielding) still staying at home, visits out of house in 2020 3 x hospital, 1 x cafe (my birthday just before lockdown) and that's it. Starting to go a little stir crazy but feel very anxious about going out.6 -
think my think my pot will be very low but this is because not been out much not spending cash so no change! Could have some at the end of the week as off to Wales for a week. Hope we will get some nice beach weather 😀Pay ALL your debt off by Xmas 2021 no 50 Target for this year £12,000

Like other potters I really prefer dealing with cash. It's far too easy to overspend on a card isn't it. I still don't feel safe in shops so still food shopping online (and spending more than the budget
) doing a monthly online shop for certain other things at B**ts and not buying any clothes or shoes. What's the point if we're not going anywhere! This 'eat out to help out' scheme has caused chaos in our local area too. We tried it once but hated it so won't do it again
Hence the only 'potting' I have done is a very welcome £12.86 from another online craft sale. Strictly speaking, it's not a sealed pot because I know exactly how much is going into my Paypal a/c but it will be very welcome towards Christmas presents this year nonetheless.
Sue, it will be very sad times if the thread has to close. You have been such an inspiration to us all. I can't think of another way to go at the moment.... Thanks for your kind comments on my last post
I do hope your DD is getting on well with the new medication and that you and T are healing. G & I feel this lockdown has aged us no end. G has lost 2 stones in weight and I've lost 10lbs all without trying and I feel most of mine is muscle tone! We went for a long walk in the park last week and were both puffing like steam engines up the slopes to the woodland walk
Have a great weekend everyone

Hi all
This is my first post for a long time so I'm going to update my savings for the year.
As well as my cash savings in my sealed pot, I have the following...
One win on the lottery, £30
One premium bond win, £25

All of my money goes to fund my Christmas and Birthday accounts for the next 12 months.
I'm on track for my target this year

Hi Potters
Another fiver in my virtual pot taking the total to £115 now. DH and I have to go to the cashpoint this week as we are going to start back in private dance lessons and will be paying in cash
can't remember the last time I did that! We are still very much like rabbits in the headlights and resisting going anywhere if we can, however, we have discussed this and feel we should make some sort of effort to get out before we become total hermits. We have a very nice cafe/restaurant within walking distance and we may try a meal out over the weekend. Let's hope it goes well!!!
To add my voice to others, I really hope the thread continues, it's such a great community feel and although many of us are now substituting cards for cash, there are many other ways to set aside money for saving. This forum, for me personally, started out as a savings scheme but very quickly grew into so much more than that. I believe that is thanks to the support and encouragement from Sue_UU and all the other lovely potters who regularly participate in our chat. Vive SPC

Good Evening SPCers!
I hope you've had a wonderful weekend, pretty good weather too!
Do please TAKE CARE & STAY HEALTHY EVERYONE!!For all those of you who are either poorly or feeling low or miserable in any way, here are very best wishes that you'll soon be feeling a lot better.
Hi again mummytummy. There's been a great deal of water past under all the SPC bridges in all those potting years! 😮 I'll reply to your PM tomorrow.I completely understand your concerns about SPC, but due to the Coronavirus it's made things so very difficult due to handling cash, especially when we haven't a clue what will happen during autumn until spring of next year. First we need to wait and see what happens when the kiddies go back to school! As there's already a VSPC here on MSE it's nigh on impossible to run ours in the same way.As ours would be starting off again on October 30th, I need to be able to prepare the details of exactly how the potting will be done which, under the circumstanceis a bit of a blighter! Also, since this new format, there's no way now that I'm able to bring people's attention to vital things to do with SPC's running. I asked months ago for at least one other colour, but apart from fobbing me off with excuses (where's that Martin smilie now?! 😡) I can only believe the forum won't be having another! Such a shame as that too makes things far more difficult, especially at the end/beginning of threads.Leave it with me to rack my brains over for now mummytummy, with luck I/we will come up with a solution. 😀FINGERS SECURELY CROSSED!Re SPC: Half an hour later - I'm hoping I might just have seen a way through the potting, let me make sure I've thoroughly thought it out properly and haven't missed anything before I say anything to you all. You're exactly the same as me, Frostie, totally fed up with being indoors due to having had to shield, yet frightened to go out because of the virus! 😡 The only excursions I've had are to the Dr or hospital. Never mind, hopefully it'll all turn around soon, though I'm not crossing my fingers! 🙄 Well done on what you've potted!Hi welshspendthrift! It's not just you having a job potting, it's a pest for certain. All the very best with the with the weather when you go to Wales! Good luck with the pennies too! 🤗Hi little-sweetie! Thank goodness you came on and said about clothing, I've been worried sick about where to buy clothes online, but you said it all "where's the point or the need when we're not able to go anywhere!!! I normally get jeans in B..mar..é, but even when the shop was here specific jeans were never specific at all! The variation was amazing, maddening too!Having said all that, we'll all need to shop for clothes at some point. I need inspiration for that as well as SPC!! 🙄Our Grandchildren have all taken advantage of the "eat out to help out" but weren't too impressed, our 2 middle Grandsons even came back a little concerned about whether it was a safe step to take, I'm inclined to agree.BTW our Joey finally got himself a Physical Training job at a private school! 🥰 T & I will miss him terribly, as every day a cheery voice calls out "Hi Granddad, how are you and how's Granny today": the two of them then chat across the garden for 10 to 20 minutes, me too when I'm on my crutches. He's a really lovely lad, it'll be quite strange without him until half term. 😢I've heard several people say they're sure they've aged since this virus all began, so I'm not at all surprised at you and G; that's a lot of weight G's lost, bless him. You take great care too! Still, I was so pleased to hear you'd both had a lovely long walk including inclines. A certain amount of puffing does us all good, so long as we're careful.I'll be back soon, look after yourself and be quite proud of your money earned. 👏👏 🤩 xxHi Frogletina! Don't worry, I realised my error about where you are/going when I replied, put it down to an SPC moment. 😀Excellent potting and gaining, you've done really well. 👏👏🤩 I'm so pleased you're on track for the year, that's more than I am I'm sure.Take great care.Hi siju, Very well done with your potting!! Or not. 😀 So you're going to start living life again! I'm really pleased for you both, especially as you're going dancing! 🕺💃 I'm fairly sure I've worked out a way of keeping SPC, and us all, together, but want to be certain I get it all ok before saying too much, maybe in a couple of days. Enjoy your meal BTW. All I urge that you do is keep sticking to the 2 meter distance, apart from DH as your dance partner of course! 🤗 If you're really careful you should be ok, but problems could arise with kiddies going back to school...*******************************************************************************************************************...The largest problem being with the little kiddies as they have the highest viral load, in other words, if they catch it, they, for some scientific reason, gain more of the infection! Take very great care folk, and if any of you have littlies of your own, please take care of who you visit/if anyone as you could so easily pass it on IF your littlie manages to catch it!!!!*******************************************************************************************************************Right, I'm off now, I've got a rotten toothache! It's taken me 6hrs to get an appointment to have it seen too.....on Sept 1st!!!!!
Still, one good thing, I saw our Dr last week, he's positive I've got ligament trouble with the ankle, so I'm off to Orthopaedics on Wednesday. Fingers crossed!!!
Enjoy a peaceful evening and LOVELY TUESDAY folks! Keep safe and STAY HEALTHY!
SueNB folks: Opening date for SPC 13 is 29th October 2020.Anyone wishing to join us, it's NEVER too late!
So please just ask and you will be made very welcome

Sue i'm sure both of our challenge can continue to run, we have mutual challengers on both, it will allow a hybrid option/blended of both, and I as many hope that we can return to more coin spending and potting as the process of potting coins is far more satisfying then making a online transfer.Sue-UU said:I completely understand your concerns about SPC, but due to the Coronavirus it's made things so very difficult due to handling cash, especially when we haven't a clue what will happen during autumn until spring of next year.
