  • Took the littles for a drive to see christmas decorations and picked up a magic bag from Starbucks. It's not somewhere I normally go but thought I'd give it a whirl. Got four cakes in it and a smoothie. Split it up between us all so kids went hyper but its gone calm again now. I can highly recommend banana bread and almond croissants.  The croissant had a very sweet and sugary filling in which took me by surprise but it was very nice. The vegan chocolate cake didnt go down so well though. One person liked it, rest of us thought it was yuk

  • Money wise I'm plodding along. It's been a rough year all round. Next year it will be a case of building up the savings and living it up a bit. I've crimped to get this far and now I want to go a bit slower and start to be able to say yes it's okay to spend on such and such if we need/can save for it.

I think we all start off wanting to clear the debt as fast as we can, and pushing ourselves to pay as much towards it as we can.

I was the same and have only recently figured the debts are going down, I'm paying what has been agreed, it's not a crime to have a life as well (as long as it's not causing more debt!).  It's taken me a long time to get out of that mindset (and I'm not sure I'm completely there yet), but we are allowed to do things, and the debts will go eventually.  It's also better for us to have a cushion of savings behind us so we can cope with unexpected expenses.

  • Thanks jwil. I think inmy mind getting half way was a barrier I had to cross.  also my name debts being only dmp ones and finally amounting to less than my annual income makes me feel much more settled. My budget will always be tight but I noticed yesterday with the Starbucks that I was thinking I was being frivolous and questioning the budget and thought how sad is that for 3.50.  I need to get my savings up but with everything that has gone on this year in our house and in the world it's not surprising the money evaporated.

  • Random pence has been swapped from the bank accounts and I'm going to reinstate my standing orders to my savings pots and e fund pots. Onwards and upwards. Raining and pouring here today so limited to pottering around the house and hopefully watching a film or two. We have been in tier 3 or lockdown most of the year and local authority has even said no to "grass roots" sports for the kids so its pretty low key. It's a bonus the kids still get to socialise (all be it in a restricted way) at afterschool club!

  • Not posted for a few days. Kids have had a lovely week at school then on the last day got a call to say confirmed case in afterschool club so youngest 2 have to isolate till 28th. Ah well. Messes up the 1 person we had coming on xmas day which is a pain in the butt but otherwise arts crafts and tv it is.  One of the kids coughed in the night so will monitor to decide if to test them. No temps lots of snot, no real cough during the day and more likely it's just being run down cos it's the end of term but we will see.  I'm self testing twice a week now with a kit from work so potentially that may show anything up if they have brought it home.
Budget wise I have overspent a  tiny bit. Got enough food in but am trying to book a delivery in case we end up positive and have to do the while hog. Earliest available one seems to be 28th dec.

  • What a difference a day makes eh. Christmas is now advised to be a lot quieter for everyone. We had accepted ours being v quiet and zoom oriented although we feel awful about our intended plus one in our support bubble. One child has symptoms so it will be just us but it's a shame that a lot of people are also having that decision put on them now as well.

  • Have managed to get a delivery with iceland on wed morning for last minute fresh bits. No where else had anything till 28th. I would have just nipped to a shop for what we need but until the little is tested we are all housebound. Budget wise who knows as we may be on the ssp treadmill again if we all have to stay in. I'll move my random pence over and get the calculator out next year ha ha
