Glad the MOT wasn't too bad"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0

Thankyou it was a nice surprise. The mot came in at 95 pounds in the end. Very pleased.
Also not necessarily a good thing but I noticed my subprime credit card has gone from offering me 6 months cash or balance transfers to a 9 month one. 0% then shocking rates as subprime. I dont owe them in the sense that anything i pay for with that card is budgeted for and paid off in the same month but its interesting that I'm now being offered 9 month 0% transfer offers. Means I'm being see as less of a pratt with money. In a few years when our fixed rate ends this might help us restructure and spend some money on our house. Who knows 😀Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Glad the MOT went "better than expected"! Hope you get the leak sorted for good soon.

So officially back to proper school. So far so good. I've been doing my back to school budget plans and now need to watch every penny again....boring. I am allowed to update tax credits of childcare costs from tomorrow. Fingers crossed they are not too far behind so I know my actual budget soon.
The online calculator reckons we might get some money towards. Fingers crossed we do. It all helps. Random pence sent to savings this week so a few pots have increased a little. I'm in two minds about overpaying debts and mortgage I know it's a good idea but I do feel I need to save save save as a backup plan for if hopefully not when kids or us have to isolate (hopefully it wont happen but we are in the north west so I need to be cautious a while longer.)
Otherwise all is good. We still have 6 debts however. A c card that is used and paid for within same pay month if needed m, so is in effect zero.
DH c card 1000 ish- will accrue interest soon.
Me c card 2400 int free for 18 months
Dmp debts. 2700, 4800,7300. 2 are DH and 1x me
DH looks after his c card and I'm leaving him to it. I had to take responsibility for it all when the Dmp started so im.not getting involved with this one.
I pay small amounts off the other ones, its ticking over and no nasty letters so it will do for now. None of them are small enough to have a real short term surge to clear so saving is more of a motivator too xJan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Tax credits updated. Once I get any news i might do a soa so any obvious mistakes can be pointed out.
Random pence sent across for savings. No progress on the leak other than pulling up the kitchen floor yet not finding it. 😭We are sure it's in the exact spot where United utilities dug and filled it again so we have asked them to come back again. We have resigned ourselves to paying to fix it but some help in finding the flipping thing would make it easier.
Otherwise I am firmly back on the treadmill of school work housework and homework. And it's as tiring as I remember !!Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Ahh, sorry to hear the leak's still proving to be a mystery. I hope the utility company can track it down for you!Looking at your sig you're getting close to having paid off half the debt, that's really good going! I hope the tax credits people process your stuff soon. I'm in the north east and the few people I know still on tax credits (they seem to be pushing people off them whenever possible here) say that even during coronavirus they're fast, so hopefully it's the same for you.Start Debt Jun 2020 = £10,036 - Current £5,894 | #324 £1,000 Emergency Fund Member - £2051

Thankyou..I'm hoping I hear soon too. We are booking more wraparound childcare this year than usual so there is the question in the back of.my mind as to whether we can actually afford it. If we get what the tax credit calculator says then we just a about can but until its confirmed it's always a worry. We have had an open claim on and off for 5 years now. I keep expecting it to be closed or us transferred to UC but its not happened yet. Pre lockdown we got 20 quid a week towards childcare with an average coat of 80. Average childcare will be 135 now so I'm hoping we get at least the 20 quid a week and preferably the 40 a week the calculator thinks we will. Anyway I'm rambling sorry all.

Tax credits have been very quick to respond. We have claimed them and off for years and it is so much more efficient than it used to be.
I'm not sure I have the correct award though and have contacted them twice to ask they recheck. When I put our details in the online calculator the estimate said 250 every 4weeks which means we can afford it. We were awarded 400 every 4 weeks which I have queried and its been reduced to 350 every 4 weeks. Still a big difference. The papers keep talking about extra benefits this year due to covid so maybe it's that. I'm going to try my very best to put 75 away every 4 weeks in case it's an overpayment that comes back to haunt us...
(we had a very rough year when the kids were little when we had been overpaid and they stopped practically everything to recoup it)
Our childcare is going to be approx 7k between now and july not including any holiday care. I'm breaking it down into 1%.I'm supposed to pay it a month in advance but the aim is to reach 100% paid sooner than the end of the school year. Adds a bid of fun to it all xxxJan 18 Joint debts 35,213

I will leave it a few days to see if it gets adjusted again then post a soa.
Debts are on the back burner at the moment as we are still going back and forth with this leak. Realistically I wont be paying much to them though for the rest of the year. Spare pence means the savings are going up though!!Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Tax credits award has been adjusted 2 more times this week. Soa next week maybe?
Random pence paid to savings and debts are down not up. It feels very strange to not send anything extra to them at the moment and not even feel the need to. Schools locally are isolating year groups left right and centre. Self preservation of finance and cash flow is the target till spring.Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213
