It is depressing isn't it.  I hate that people have to choose between childcare and work.  I think the government should consider improving access to subsidised childcare to help people to work rather than not work and go on benefits purely because of the cost of childcare!  I was always of the opinion that one day we'd be better off from having stayed in work, and that day has finally come!  Because we're used to not having that money now, we can use it towards other things now.

  • I'm so glad you have got to that point jwil. It takes the pressure off doesn't it. It took us 12 months after all the kids starting school to start seeing the benefits. Much as I still pay a fortune in childcare it's part of a budget which although tight now balances. In a magical world I wouldn't have to pay it then we could do clubs ,swimming, trips or sort the house but we are fed watered housed and safe which is what matters

  • We have officially been told the leak is our problem and advised to ring the insurance. We did and if I'm honest I wasnt inspired to believe they will actually pay anything out. We are going to ignore the suggestion of paying someone to dig a hole and camera under the house at our own cost and just randomly pull up some laminate and floorboards in the area the dig team from the water board guessed the leak was. The insurance told us to pay for CCTV investigation ourself (appears pricey) but not tell them insurance was involved as the price will go up. They also said wear and tear wouldn't be covered even under the floor.
The hope is we can get under the floor see an obvious leak pay a professional to fix it and the reclick the laminate as best we can. Fingers crossed folks.

  • The good news is I've had a tax rebate of 50 quid. So operation leak is underway. My mot is due next week and I've got 250 set aside. If I'm lucky it will.cost less and we can use some of that too.
Lots of fingers crossed here this month.

How annoying about the water.  Hope it's a relatively easy fix and your insurance co pays out.  Fingers crossed for the MOT too.

  • Quite a spendy day today. Big food shop and also got new underwear socks and a few clothes bits we were getting desperate for. I'd been holding out for the sainsbury's 25% off but as it was cancelled I thought I should just go in and buy what we needed. I rounded up the accounts yesterday and will have another go tomorrow when everything clears from today

  • Swapped some money around and mortgage payment went out. One more month and it will be below 70k which is a nice little milestone. Weathers bait hit and miss so no major plans. Have bought a water pump to get rid of our underground puddle. Hopefully then we can pull up a bit of floor and find an way to fix leak.

I bet you'll feel great breaking below the £70,000 mark. Well done! I hope the plumbing turns out to be a simple fix.

  • Bank accounts all rounded up and ending in zero. Just been informed my mot has one fail but a cheap one. Need to ask if any advisories when I pick it up but it looks like the mot and repair needed will come in at 120 ish. For the age of the car I class that as a win.
That's 130 I can swap to the leak fund
