Belated welcome back! It looks like you've made great progress with all those little payments. It's been inspiring reading through your diary.

  • Thankyou. It has been a bit of a journey. I feel like I'm in the long slog now which isnt quite as motivating but I'll get there. We still have debt and not lots of spare income but we have used it a lot better recently so as long as our water problem doesn't cost too much we should be okay.
Still no news on that. Hoping to hear soon.

I'm with you on the reduced childcare fees, it's been lovely!

  • It has hasn't it. That's pretty much how the e fund has finally to 1k. We took the mortgage break as we were told we stood a good chance of needing to isolate and dh only gets ssp. We had hoped we would get lucky and not need to and so manage to bank 3 months worth of mortgage but it wasnt to be.
I hadn't realized however how much of an impact not paying childcare would be. It's been a unexpected bonus these last few months.  It shows what we could do as a family if we didn't have to pay it. Ah well.
Just  hoping kids dont have to get sent home from school or isolate to many times over winter. We are spread across 3 class bubbles and breakfast and afterschool club so if a case does occur we are likely to be on the go home and be careful list :(

I worked out that over the last 7 or so years, I've paid over £50K on nursery and childcare fees!  It made me feel a bit sick!  Nursery fees are ending for me this week, hurrah!  I'm lucky in that I've been working from home, so if I can continue with that I might not need so much childcare going forward.  It's a huge juggle, but they are worth it (mostly :D )

  • Yay for the end of your nursery fees. Yes we too have spent at least that much and probably more on childcare over a similar period. It's no wonder I'm in debt.... in fact one of the c card debts is a card that was only ever used to pay the difference between what we earned and nursery.....
I wouldn't mind but at no point have they ever been in full time childcare yet it still cost that much. Our cost between now and next july is just over 5 k not including any holiday clubs. I'm breaking into down into 1% so it becomes a challenge not a depressing bill. It's that catch 22 whether to work or not but I'm extremely lucky to have that choice.
Otherwise I've had a nice cheap morning out and only paid for parking. Sun was out so I rushed everyone to get up and ready before places got busy.

I have just started doing this. Every time I log onto my online banking app I put the spare change into the savings account so the main account ends in a round pound. It is surprising how quickly it adds up and of course we don't miss it from the main account.

It does add up doesn't it. I got the idea from the forums here. And it makes adding up easier if everything ends in a zero !!

  • Not too much to report today. Random pence swapped over. Nearly payday and it's raining and pouring. Have a nice day everyone x
