So im back making an effort again. I always was making some progress but covid, unpaid leave, sick leave, self isolation and the shocking prices in supermarkets when only branded food is available sent my finances the wrong way. I have started rounding down my bank accounts again and concentrating on a plan. I sent a few pence yesterday to my annual bill funds and a few pence today to my pension lisa. That has very little in it but 2 people are retiring at work and when everyone has said i wish I could or Ive got so many more years etc etc we have all looked at our pension plans realised we dont understand them but that they are not enough and we all need to pay more. Hence my few pence today. Rolls eyes as my few pence will not help v much.....
Anyhow the debts are 18293. Ill look at how to update my sig. Mortgage debt is also a bit higher as we have not paid that for 3 months either - with banks agreement.
We have 578 in our emergency fund. That took a long time to save so not using it even in an emergency!
Food bill is too high other budgets being kept to and i have a months childcare costs ready for whenever that all starts again.Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Action plan is check to see which month i need to resume our mortgage. Im going to try and get one more month so that and our emergency fund would cover us if the track and trace people ring us and we both have to isolate again.
Then resume mortgage adjust budget as it will have gone up slightly.
Then pay a day into either savings for house repairs account or off one of the debts. Im wanting to break the 50 % paid barrier again but we desperately need to save for some of the work needed on the house. Will also attempt to keep to food budget of 100 a week. But not be to cross if i cant achieve it. Im supermarket shopping via click and collect and am missing Aldi prices... queuing and distancing for a family of 5s weekly shop has not proved practical so im online shopping again for the moment but to my bank balances disgust...

A few pence swapped over again. Checked and mortgage is due to start being repaid at end of june and has gone up by 6 pounds a month. We should be okay to restart the payemts i think. We took a 3 month break to ease the pressure and to cover sick leave as we are both working out of the home in jobs were it we were told we were likely to maybe get sick. Over the 3 months We have broke even after our wages being reduced and all the extra leave and sick leave we had taken. And we bought a new cooker as ours packed in mid lockdown..
So aside from a slight increase in all debts are finances are similar to three/four months ago. Slow and steady now to get savings healthy.Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Shopping order done for next week. Spent less than usual but only because ive got 200 left for 19 days. Eek. Our cupboards are fairly healthy but im trying not to run them too low. Im back to meal planning and i think i will sign up to grocery challenge from next payday to track what im spending. Been feeling fed up as we all are I suppose. Its the realisation that things have changed to our new normal for a few more month weeks and months to come yet. Im unsure what schools will have to invent for september. Mary poppins delivering spare classrooms and teachers from her handbag maybe. XJan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Long time no see. So after not getting to grips at all with the new format and in all honesty having total awareness of my debt but sticking my head in the sand for a while to ignore it. I have had a breakthrough. I have found a bookmark option. I'm assuming that means I can now find my diary whenever I log in. Yipee.
Now to figure out how to change my signature and i may be able to start posting and being accountable again.Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Is it sad that I just logged out then back in to see if it would work. Also after a bit of searching I have found the signature option too.
So good news is
My e fund is finally good. The house repair fund has 1650 in. Enough for a necessary roof repair which is booked and committed to.
Childcare fund is 450. This is enough for 3 weeks childcare.
The debts are slightly less than they were in june.
Not so good news
My xmas fund has 400 in. I know this is not enough- birthdays all follow xmas.
We have a problem with the house that could be very costly. The water company has traced a leak to our house and found it is in/under the house. No one knows where but we know its here.
We didn't know as our water meter is pretty similar and bill is fairly consistent. They think it's a leak in the pipe leading up to the meter so we haven't seen it and as yet have no obvious wet patches. No ones really sure where or how big/damage it may have caused and as yet we haven't had the official verdict that we will have to pay for it. Yikes. We can only hope if it's bad then its comes under the remit of house insurance otherwise I suspect the e f childcare and xmas fund will be gone. So far they have dug 3 holes in the drive that they will cover in and make good but now are waiting to be told what happens next. Fingers crossed we dont have to dig up all our floors xxxJan 18 Joint debts 35,213

Welcome back! Hope the water repair isn't too horrific!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0

Thanks jwil.
I think I need to come back to my diary to help me be stricter. I have learnt over the years that pennies make pounds and I can just keep chipping away at it and make it easier. I'm still chasing the elusive 50 percent paid. It's slow progress as the repayments I'm making means it will take many years but we need to carry on with real life too. I'm going to set up a standing order to start sending my spare pennies to the next debt. That way I can remain true to the name of the diary and my bank can end in zeros again.Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213
