  • My survey money cleared. I wasnt expecting it and it was a nice suprise. Ive sent 9 pounds odd to debts and had a nice bar of chocolate as well.. The debts have temporarily gone down to 19043 but will increase throughout the month as we use the card abroad. The c card is at 0 ready to travel and i have finally tried my monzo card. So far so good. It seems to show transactions straight away which i like. None of this pending marlarkey...
Once the bank accounts are back to normal i think i will send the food and petrol money to it each week to help me track my budget

Glad you got a little treat too out of the survey money :)

  • Thanks jwill.
Ive signed up to the 1% challenge again.
It will be my 3rd year. At first my 1% was 356.12 which in itself wasnt very motivating but now its 190.33 which sounds much better. Obviously the total number is still big but my 1% feels much more acheivable this time.

  • Happy new year everyone. I was briefly awoken by lots of local fireworks but must confess i went to bed at half 8 and slept through it all. We have been away and had a wonderul time but the little people do not have their sleep patterns reset to uk yet and are currently waking at 3.30-4am. I would love to tell you all about our trip but in the interest of beind discreet about real life me im afraid i wont. It was brilliant and if i was richer i would be booking another one. Ha ha.
    Anyhow down to the financials.
Bank accounts. Both have enough money for bills but one card was stopped via the bank whilst we were away due to suspected fraudulent activity. Hats off to halifax as i didnt receive messages about it as out eu but they stopped the transactions froze my card and when i rang them on return sent a new card with none of the dodgy stuff leaving my account.
Monzo. I am very impressed and will keep this for food and petrol weekly spends.
Savings. Emergency fund. Still growing. Hopefully i can get to 500 this year.
Debt total is 18387 which is less than when i started this diary i think so i class that as a win.
It consists of DH 1110 c card he pays this one and 2713 and 4897 dmp debts at 0% that I pay.
Me 28 c card with interest payable. Will clear this month. 239 c card interest free for 6 months then v high rate. 1836 recent loan. This total includes the expected interest payable bit so could settle for less. 245 dmp debt with no interest payable 7319 dmp debt with no interest payable.
Im not going to overpay by much due to taking the loan on but if i overpay the loan the amounts will reduce quicker. I am wondering whether to go dave ramsey on my debts though and go small to high. No other reason than to reduce my monthly outgoings and increase my cash flow.
Im sure i will chop and change as the year goes on.
Anyhow targets are to get to 50 % paid. Which would be 17750 aprox.
Also for emergency fund to reach 500. Both acheivable if everything stays sweet. I also need to consider having a pay back tax credits fund. Ive told them of all our changes and increased earnings this year but i dont need a cystal ball to know i will be told ive overpaid when the letters come out in june.....call me pessimistic if you wish but i know how it works. On the plus side our childcare is now less than our mortgage so i dont think we will get/need any tax credits at all from april as i will go to the top of my band at work and the income and outgoings will finally match....yayyyy...

  • Im so impulsive. Oh dear. I checked one of my cards and was offered a 0% deal ona money transfer. Ive gone for it to clear the loan. Including the fee if i pay the same each minth as i would on the loan the interest free period will nake it a couple of 100 pounds cheaper in the long run. It will accrue interest at the end unless i can seap it again but it works out cheaper.
I will sort it all out when halifax turns back online and update new totals over the next few days. Hoping to reach 50 % paid by april if my maths is correct. X

  • Also i have not yet written my 20 things in 2020 resolutions list yet. I saw it on another thread and liked it but have not yet figured out my list.
    Heres a start.
1 Give 20 donations to charity. Obv more if poss. Basically though set aside some money and get the children to give it/decide who to give it to. They are at the age where i can gently explain how good they have it despite our skintness and should learn compassion and empathy whilst giving it away. And despite my dmp im far better off than some and it annoys me that thats how it is.
    2. Chuck out or recycle 20 things a week. And find the marie kondo? thread to find out what its all about
    3. 20 sit ups or squats or 20 secs planks a day. I feel frumpy and tired and i read another diary about a sit up a day that will eventually become 2 so decided to try it.
20 sit ups for me is **** hard. My excuses being a twin pregnancy where i gained 5 stone and a section. Its a few years ago now so it shouldnt be an excuse but i have no muscle tone left whatsoever so always duck out.. Lol
4.Read 20 books. Im a quick reader so v possible but have to allocate the me time to do it.
5.Have 20 planned days out with the kids. Ive scrimped this year and avoided many things as a result so i intend to do more family fun plans this time round. They wont necessarily be expensive but i think saying we are going here and i have budgeted x amount to have fun with days is more than fair :)
    6. Do 20 things to improve the house
    7. Something to do with drinking more water. Maybe 20 glasses a week as 20 doesnt fit in a day. I need to be less reliant on caffeine and flush out my system. Ill figure it out.
    8. 20 visits to the gym.
    9. Take kids swimming 20 times.
