Think that's everything for my list for today but I do have a question - I've recently balance transferred a lot of my debt so now have "empty" accounts. Is it better to:
    1. keep them open (provided I can guarantee I won't use);
    2. reduce the credit limit (currently have over £15k unused between the 3 accounts)
    3. close them completely.
Really appreciate any guidance anyone has!

    Hi Twiggy,
I only have emotional advice and not necessarily financially sound advice - I would close and lower amounts, but still leave yourself a bit of space on one credit card - unless you have a large EF.
What pushed me over the edge earlier this year was a series of bad decisions that ended up with me maxing out 3 credit cards. It will slightly hit your credit score - but who cares, and large unused amounts might hit your credit as well.
But if you are tidying up your money life you probably want to end up with less credit cards anyways ... so thats what I think, and at the end of the day you are the one in charge and the one in the know! Well done for chipping away at your cards.

    Hi Frugalistas,
This week's money saving priorities will be:
*Keeping all my household finances/budgets straight.
*Cracking down on a few little energy wasting bad habits which are creeping back in.
*Update Christmas presents planner as there has been quite a lot of progress today & over the weekend.
*Begin knitting my new jumper - gifted yarn & pattern book, so something new to wear which hasn't involved spending, apart from some needles sizes I didn't have.
*Progress knitting final gift I need to make this year.
*Aim to get a bit more free physical exercise each day, as this has been slipping.
    *Stop eating caramel buttons.
There are other projects I aim to progress too, but these are the money saving ones.
Brrrr, it is dropping chilly here now, I think the fire will be lit very soon.
    Have a great week all,

  • Hello!
    Yes, I have been missing.
Yes, I have overspent and started fretting.
But I have made it to half term, and am determined to pull myself round a bit and get back on the straight and narrow.
I'm not long home from a long drive so I'm just saying hello and subscribing tonight - I'll be back on with some sort of plan in the morning.

    My list for today:
Move £45 cash back received to savings
    Claim some expenses
Declutter one drawer. Did really well with this yesterday.
Something from meal plan for tea
See if I can get app to update some points that are missing for something. If not, e mail them
    Washing shuffle
    Pick fruit
See what else I can add to the charity bag I’ve started

Have a good day all. Purps.
  • Morning all :coffee::wave:
Thanks for the welcome back. I've had a restful night thankfully and feel almost raring to go.
So I need a plan for the day rather than just hiding myself away, although I do need to rest as well.
Cannot keep ignoring the fact that December is fast approaching. I have been hoping it will all go away but it won't. Need to sort through gifts I have made and make a list and see what's what.
Also need to do a bedding wash today and see if I can get it dried.
Rake through the outhouse and see if I can find the source of the smell of cat pee out there:mad:
    Little bit of exam work
Feed my sister's cat as she's off on holiday today.
Convince the kids with a bit of baking.
    NSD (no choice here)
    Work on my crocheted gifts...
Hopefully it will get to the end of today and I'll feel as though I have been both frugal and productive. Have a good day out there everyone.

    Morning

    Today's tasks:

    Check banking
    Charge phone and tablet
Check plants - my Christmas cactus is starting to bloom
Strain and freeze the chicken stock I made yesterday
Freeze some of the bolognese I made yesterday
Attempt to tidy freezer so I can find a space for the above
Meatballs and pasta for dinner - need to make them in slow cooker
Greek salad for lunch - to use up feta, cucumber and some of the tomato mountain
Iron the washing I did yesterday
Wrap some presents - didn't do that yesterday and have to get on top of it
Get the Boy to investigate why the printer won't print - need to apply for a postal vote as we'll probably be away at the time of the election
    Quick general tidy.

But first a cup of coffee.
Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.

Thanks Ditty - I think this is the route I'm going to go down. I've only got one card that I've ever used (don't know pin for others!), so will suss out how to close once the balance is gone!

Being nosey but what crocheted gifts are you making? I bought an A-Z of animal patterns so for the kids in my life (friends' LOs) I am making them the animal that starts with the letter of their name e.g. Wilfred the Whale, Ruby the Rabbit! Really enjoying it so far but hoping I don't run out of steam!
