What small DFW things will you do w/c 28th October?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important! :money:

    Up at silly o'clock and thought I might as well start the thread now it is almost 6am. Not a fan of the clock changing shenanigans.
    Anyway, I need to wait in for a parcel (again), so won't be moving too far from the front door until it arrives. So today looks like this:
    Wash hair with everlasting shampoo bar
    Ring tradesman to ask him to look at the oven which isn't working properly
    Clean said oven :eek:
    Ring surgery about problems with new inhaler
    Ring DD1 to ask how her father in law is (he had a major operation done not once but twice in the past few days :()

    Clean bathroom
    Find and wrap an ebay item
    Sort out ham stock made in SC overnight
    Well, that will do to start with. Back later to update.
  • Thanks for starting us off Dawn I too have had a broken nights sleep, hoping for a nap later :rotfl:

    My plans for today:
    Strain chicken stock cooked overnight
    Make cake I didn't get chance to yesterday
    Check banking
    Reconcile just for points credit card
    Collect click and collect item
    Sew on some badges
    Sort out one toy box
    Sort out some books smalls have sorted out that are too young for them, start a charity shop bag
    Nap :rotfl:

    Have a good day all. Purps.

    Sorry for being MIA last week. I returned from a lovely relaxing holiday to find a close relative had just been taken to hospital with a serious illness. Things are clearer and a bit more encouraging now.The week was a bit fraught but I need to get back on track.

    So far I have:

    One load of washing in the machine and another to do. Will probably have to dry them on the airer as it's very cold.
    Banking checked and pennies moved
    Phone and tablet are charging.

    To do:

    Go to Health Centre for flu jab
    A little bit of shopping
    Make stock with chicken carcass
    Dinner is remains of the chicken
    Lunch is HM tomato soup made from a huge trawl of YS tomatoes
    Make a bolognese
    Do the ironing
    Tend to plants. My little friends took great care of them whilst I was away but the're looking a little bit bedraggled now.
    Wrap a couple of C presents. I have to do this gradually.
    Send a couple of emails
    Make a meal plan. I can't get another thing in the freezer!

    I'll be doing well if I can manage all that.

    Have a good day.
    Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.
  • Morning everyone
    I do have a very good excuse for being absent..........the decorator:eek:oh my word while i'm very laid back on many things decorating is not one of them_pale__pale_ I get very stressed out by it all.
    I think it's because I can't do it and its the full on lack of control which is evident by me just tweaking little bits that are not really noticeable but I have to do after.
    I also wanted to get it done as a surprise for my DD coming home. We've wanted to get it done for so long but various issues have caused problems and hold ups.
    Hoping to get the electrics (just basic things) done before Christmas but going to wait and do the floor after Christmas as I don't think my nerves or finances would hold out. It's an expensive business.

    I did read along as much as I could.
    1LL I hope u are feeling better after the antibiotics
    natlie :mad: to the bikes being stolen
    toni's friend I hope ur relative is improving

    Managed to work from home last week. I'm out for one meeting today and then some birthday presents to deliver.
    Stocked up on foods for DD coming home using a £3 off voucher at tesc@
    Popped a chilli in the slow cooker. Need to freeze up some portions today but I think it could feed us easy for the week there is that much.
    Heating is on. It's dry outside and blue skies but very cold.
    Managed by chance and I'm never lucky with these things to pick up a nest of tables for £10 on a local fb site on Saturday. They are I beautiful condition. I think it's a house clearance, they had some lovely things up which were going very fast so im grateful for the tables which have saved me a fair bit
    Banking all checked, everything good.
    Off to check quidco now!:D

    Have a good day everyone x

    Go shopping and stick to the list
    Put ALL the shopping away
    Home educate children, we are not having half term break
    Shut the curtains before it gets dark

    Hi Dawn
    Thanks for starting this.
    Finally managed a NSD yesterday.
    Also walked 27000 steps, which is a bit of a record, and now my foot hurts.
    Payday is not till Thursday so hoping for NSD between now and then.
    Am grateful though as a colleague has gifted me a bicycle and I will give her a nice bottle and choc next weekend - it's got a flat tyre - but I think that goes for all hand me down bikes and it's easy to fix.
    Over on the Groceries list - you will see that I have failed massively and overspent on my groceries, but then there was a party and a birthday in there.
    Isa help to buy: 1000/3000 33%
    Emergency fund: 100/1000 10%

    Morning all!

    Back after a lovely frugal weekend with my best friend! Hope everyone had a good weekend (not caught up on last week's thread yet).

    Today I have/will:
    * Check banks
    * Take lunch to work
    * Loaded up washing machine but forgot to turn it on so will do when I get home
    * Use up "old" loo roll (i.e. the end of the roll which OH has an aversion too!)
    * Check OP/PA
    * Log into "old" energy supplier to see what sort of refund I might receive (just switched)
    * Charge phone at work
    * Small shop at lunch
    * Snap receipts
    * Wash on 30 degree eco
    * Hang washing on airer
    * Make HM pizzas for dinner
    * Get a lift to parkour
    * Do some more crochet

    Think that's everything for my list for today but I do have a question - I've recently balance transferred a lot of my debt so now have "empty" accounts. Is it better to:
    1. keep them open (provided I can guarantee I won't use);
    2. reduce the credit limit (currently have over £15k unused between the 3 accounts)
    3. close them completely.
    Really appreciate any guidance anyone has!
    Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
    Current debt - £5,435.00
    Total paid off - £10,165.89 (65% paid off)

    Good afternoon all,
    Thanks again for the well wishes. I'm pleased to say I'm feeling much better then I have for the previous month. Its well timed as dh is on holiday and its the kids half term :)
    Its been lovely to read all your news this morning.

    Todays plan
    * gym session - just one class and dh came too :)
    * took the kids to the trampoline place - ds1's membership ends at New year, so just his £8.99 a month for him but we paid the £9!! for one session for ds2 today (as it was the first time back since he broke his arm there in the summer and we cancelled his membership)
    * called into aldeee on the way past for a top up shop. - stuck to the list
    * badminton booked for this afternoon with the kids will take our own drinks so there will be no nagging for a drink from the vending machine!
    * Dh and I are watching Bond films from the start, first two watched over the weekend so lots more dvds to go at during his week off!
    * check banking/update cashbook
    * get out for a walk later
    * pop to the library
    * all meals and snacks from stores.

    Take care all.

    Thanks for the new thread Dawn - hope the news is good re DD FIL
    Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.
