Yeah, I think yesterday was definitely a caketarian day. I adjusted so that I hardly ate any real food at all to make up for the cake. Very nice to have a little left to enjoy on my train coming home from a gig though!
Today we have started with sweet as OH pilfered some office breakfast goodies, and he wanted stolen crumpets, so I got stolen maple pancakes. (They're not really stolen, just rescued from the bin and deliciously free).
Very little to do today but a bit of housework, pop to town to pick up my repaired boots. Might do a soup lunch and something with prawns for tea, Seafood pasta or stir fry with noodles.
B: pancakes, banana
L: soupPrawn thing.

Hello everyone,
My weigh day is tomorrow and I have had a hell of a week actually , just so so busy. I have had a sick son to look after and a house that seemed to be full of people coming and going (me too) , here, there and everywhere.
So tomorrow I weigh in and I have not calorie tracked once ...... eeekkk. but I have kept a small eye on it, we will see I guess.
I just quickly wanted to pick your collective brains about how you all manage your diet. Do you calorie count? use an app? follow a plan ?
what is healthy eating ? what is a good step in the right direction when starting?
basically all your hints and tips on whats worked for you .....
heeelllllllpppppp
thank you

debbiedodge I think it's a process of trial and error to find what works for your body at this point in time.
I have to 'diet by rules'. They are set in stone because I cant trust myself on the fly.
For me, this time, I'm eating just once a day. Once a week I allow myself an exception but it must be pre planned, not impulsive.
I've followed the AA advice of 'if you dont want to slip dont go where its slippery' and I dont allow my temptations into the house (I live alone), I've wiped them off my online shopping list. I never buy any processed foods except things like tinned tomatoes that are ingredients.
When you just eat once a day the calories limit themselves. I have 1 portion of savory carbs a day (and almost always some kind of pudding - usually fruit and yogurt). I run at about 50% of my plate in fruit and veg. So within that framework I dont count calories.
Generally I post in the morning what my intentions are for the day. Then I feel committed. If I do deviate at all I make a edit. This way I've built myself a little accountability loop, and the thought of doing an edit is prohibitive. I must assert this is between me and my own head, there is no judgement or nastiness here which is fantastic.
I think this one meal a day is suiting me because it's so simple. I'm surprised how quickly I adjusted and really don't feel hungry. Also I eat with my dad most nights, so it keeps that social family vibe going, which is important to us.
I have a very simple weight monitoring app, that does a clear dashboard and a nice graph to impress people with!! ("Ooooh, you are looking well"... "would you like to see my graph?"!!!!!!)
Needless to say the support here on this thread, with Brambling at the helm, is invaluable. Just keep posting!!
So, that's me. There will be lots of other excellent advice too. Just try different things out for a while, you'll find your own way.
I'm a Sunday weigher too, so I'll see you in the morningA bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it

Evening all
Debbie I kind of follow a SW diet which worked for me about ten years ago when I lost four stone. I've never been a calorie counter although I do look at the back of packs to get some idea if I really want to eat it, will the taste be worth it? I live alone but unfortunately unlike tighteningthebelt I bring the temptation into the house, usually with the good intention that I'll just have just one
I cook from fresh and very rarely eat ready meals or takeaways it helps that I like to cook. I eat loads of vegetables and fruit, limited fat (oil, butter) and when I'm trying to be good limited sugary treats. I shouldn't eat bread as it doesn't agree with me but I eat other carbs, just being careful what I add to them. I know others have good results with fasting or something similar but they're not for me
Living alone i often batch cook and that includes vegetables so I'm not tempted after work to eat rubbish for dinner. This time of the year I make loads of soup usually with no fat just vegetables maybe with lentils cooked in stock, sometimes blitzed sometimes left chunky like minestrone, this is usually my lunch during the week.
When organised I do better, then I menu plan and have been known to write down everything I've eaten as well.
I've been trying to focus on something to avoid the evening snacking due to mouth hunger  so the knitting has come out, I'm not the greatest of knitters but retaught myself a few years back having not done it since my early teens so it's basic stuff. Last night it was knitting 1 snacks 0 shortly followed by knitting 0 Cat 1
Today I decided I didn't need anything out so pottered at home and in the garden, enjoying the mild dry day.

L - quorn goujons in a pita with raw spinach

Good evening everyone
FrugalLina I love the term “caketarian” and will shamelessly use it when circumstances require.
Debbiedodge I’ve tried several diets over time. Calorie counting didn’t work for me, because it forced me to think about food all the time. The only one which works for me is the Harcombe diet, which avoids mixing fats and carbs, cuts out as much sugar as possible, and minimises processed foods. If I follow it properly, it works really well for me. It is also “doable” for me as it lets me eat most of the sorts of things I’d usually eat (in contrast to some diets I tried which needed lots of different foods in prescribed menus).
As you’ll have noticed, each person has their own regime, and what works for one may not work for another. Like tighteningthebelt , I don’t buy “danger” foods. I sometimes look at them in the shop, but I’ve trained myself to ask “how fat do you want to be?” if I think of buying them. Unlike ttb though, I don’t think I could get by with only one meal a day, I need breakfast.
I’ve also stopped watching cookery programmes, including Bake Off, as they just make me want to eat. I meal plan, and make my shopping list from the plan, which I stick to. To avoid feeling deprived, one line of the list is “5 impulse buys” which lets me take advantage of an offer, or buy something I forgot to put on the list. Like Brambling I mostly cook from scratch, and try to have at least one salad a day (without dressing).
I try to have a variety of foods, plenty of vegetables and fruits, but avoiding the higher sugar sorts. I’ve also found a small, low calorie, starter (usually tomato salad or homemade soup) at dinner time stops me hunting the kitchen for evening snacks. Snacks at any time of day are pretty lethal for me. This forum, as has been said, is very helpful and the support is great, also in that I have to write down what I’ve eaten.
It’s been bright but very cold today, so no gardening done, and tonight someone has been letting off an hour or so of fireworks with very loud bangs. Junior Doggy felt it his duty to complain....
Eaten today were
B: bacon and eggs
L: smoked mackerel salad, cinnamon yogurtveg soup, beef burger (no bread/bun) with mushrooms, celery and carrots, yogurt with cinnamon (for something different
)

Morning everyone,
Reporting a 2lb loss this week.
Food today will be the veggie tagine made yesterday, with rice and half a mini naan. Pud will be yogurty blackcurrant mousse and an apple.
Happy Sunday everyone.A bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it

Thank you all for sharing your methods with me, they all sound interesting. Tightening the Belt, I am not sure I could do 1 meal a day, although I do think I could shrink to 2 meals maybe. It's something I will think about. I can see the benefits as you don't need to calorie count and a super well done on your loss !!
Blue Doggy I've never heard of the haracombe diet, but it sounds like you've found what works for you. I am still feeding the whole family with 1 adult son and 1 young son at home, plus my husband. Aswell as my daughter who comes home with my grandson around 4 days a week, which usually runs in to lunch or dinner. So I find it hard to 'change' food to much, and I find it costly. but thank you for sharing, I glad you've found whats working for you. your menu sounds lovely.
Bramble I used to do slimming world .... I did it badly .... But even badly it did work. I would stick to most all of the sw homemade meals I would plan then I would have a little gin or wine and snack like I'd just been introduced to junk food after living on a dessert island for 3yrs. I managed to lose weight still but very very slowly. I do still cook some of the recipes though, home made burgers, curry , chinese curry ect. I might add more of these into my menu rotation maybe as they are veg packed and low cal.
Right me ...... Well as I said busy week not really ran with the calorie counting idea as I had planned, but I have still lost -1LB so not bad at all ...but for a first week it should have been full steam.
My day (I think I am going to try and do this all week)
Breakfast : Grapefruit and a tsp of sugar
Lunch : I made mac n cheese for the family (Daughter round too), apart from older son as me and him are not that keen so he asked for sweet n sour ..... so I guess so as not to waste I will join him.... but I will measure and count.
Dinner : ?? Probably won't be hungry might be a couple of crackers and cheese....... counted.
Not much exercise planned .... its bleak and grey out as it has been for what feels like a lifetime. Plus after the usual clean I am ... don't laugh .... sitting fixing christmas foils, I found an old box in the charity shop and they are all really old retro and I love them , a few are a bit tatty though, so I am going to go through and fix them, as you just don't see ones like these in the shop anymore... the colours and shapes are different. Not everyones taste but I do love a bit of christmas tat :rotfl: . After which we will pick up the shopping. Then when Daughter arrives other than dinner prep I will be sat on by my adorable grandson and that is where I will stay :A .
I will charge fitbit bit tonight and walk walk walk tomorrow :-)

Good morning everyone
tighteningthebelt well done!!!:j:j Your consistency is really impressive!
debbiedodge losing 1lb is really good :j
Weighing in: I’m -1 lb so slow but steady.
I’ve no idea how the coming week will pan out, it’s a busy week, a meeting or other activity every day, including one dinner out and a cream tea . At least I’m driving myself to the dinner, so shan’t be able to drink alcohol, and can avoid the sugary alternatives.
Menu for today:
B: plain porridgevegetable soup, grilled lamb leg steak with green beans, celery and parsnip, raspberries with yogurt
T: fat-free cottage cheese salad, apple (not decided yet how I’ll prepare it)
S: one chocolate biscuit - already! - ‘cos I was cold and a bit grumpy after walking the dogs this morning. Coffee & choc biccie is medicinal in such cases.

Well done TTB on another 2lbs, BlueDoggy and Debbiedodge on your 1lbs, too! :A
I have come down with a cold, so am feeling a bit sorry for myself (I think I caught it from Brambling :rotfl: ).
Thurs and Friday I went off plan and ate a bit too much, but I got it under control yesterday (and so far today). I am glad I didn't give up altogether as that sort of behaviour is something I have done many times in the past.
Anyway, I am off out this afternoon, have a great Sunday (what is left of it) everyone!31.5/1000
