  • I'm a bit confused. I'm going to have to do Chargeback for some of my costs (a number on VISA). I noted I have to submit a chargeback claim within 120 days but I also have to have exhausted all avenues with Thomas Cook first. So I had a few initial questions :

    1. Realistically, am I going to get anywhere with chargeback?
    2. Who do I contact in TC to start the conversation
    3. Could I exhaust all avenues with TC in 120 days
    4. Could I argue with my Cardholder that I'm not going to get very far with the retailer and go straight to charge back?

Maybe I should just contact Barclaycard?

    Thanks, Chris
  • We booked via Villa Plus with Thomas Cook flights for 3 weeks time. They have informed us that they will be trying to find alternative flights and will get back to us. If they come back to us with flights costing £300 or more extra, which seems likely from looking around. can i refuse and insist on a refund?
    Thanks
  • Wife bought me a surprise trip to Iceland for next year.
Flights & Hotel "package" purchased through Thomas Cook with thier booking reference.

But on closer inspection this morning the booking confirmation document from Thomas Cook has a line on it that says: YOUR BOOKING Supplier: Travelscape (under Expedia Inc. ATOL) ATOL Number: 5788
The ATOL cert attached to the booking says
"Who is protecting your trip? Expedia Inc, ATOL no. 5788 "
    and
"If Expedia Inc stops trading, you must follow the instructions at www.atol.org.uk"

Package purchased through Thomas Cook but ATOL cert implies it is through Expedia.
I'm obviously not going to get any travel docs from Thomas Cook prior to the trip!

    Where do I stand!
    Who do I go to?

    :(

Just to give an update on this - Expedia have confirmed to me on Twitter that, and I quote, "upon checking we found that the Expedia's card information has already been sent to the hotel. Be rest assured that your hotel is confirmed and their will be no issues at the time of check-in"

So your situation is more than likely exactly the same.
  • Atol question
We’ve spoken to our ta and they’ve told us flights are good (virgin) hotel is good (Disney) tickets are good and cruise is good (tc) were waiting to hear about our universal hotel. The atol is freedom travel Ltd who have went bust, how can we still travel under this atol certificate? I’m unsure how this works, thank you. We fly 30th sep
  • Which is why, to be safe, and for peace of mind, for the cost of a phone call, it's worth checking. :)

I called them, we’re still covered. Peace of mind is a wonderful thing
  • So we booked through On the Beach to go to Tenerife in February with Thomas Cook flights. On the Beach are offering to cover us booking flights costing up to £50 pp extra compared to the original flights. I can find flights close to that, but am I better holding off and waiting for them to rebook us as they are obligated to? There are plenty of flights on budget airlines to and from Tenerife and we are not flying peak dates so presumably they should be able to rebook us easily?
  • Just got off phone to Disney who aren’t 100% sure what’s happening. We booked park tickets through TC, we’ve rebooked the holiday but are holding back on the park tickets. They’re saying that as we have our “Will Call” tickets and passes then our tickets are paid for and we won’t need new ones. But what’s worrying me is if they’ll be cancelled before we go out and the ATOL claim goes in. Or will ATOL just refund the holiday cost if we use the park tickets?
  • I've been seeing on social media, stories regarding banks reimbursing TC customers who paid by D/D thru the Indemnity or Guarantee scheme, not sure how true this is.. I phoned RBS to enquire about this to be told I wasn't covered through D/D.. Any info would be appreciated.

Indeed it is! Well done and enjoy your holiday. :)

  • We have booked a cruise for 2020, departing on the day of our 30th Wedding anniversary. We booked it through TC instead of the cruise company because the cruise company were only offering flights from Leeds to Heathrow with a 3 hour stopover and on from there. For less than a 3rd of the price for each flight we could get direct flights with Jet2. We booked through an agent as we wanted package cover in the event of an issue with the flight and having to catch up with the ship.

We have paid just under £3,000 deposit. We have an ATOL certificate which states it is a single purchase.

Do we claim though our credit card or wait for ATOL?
At what point do we rebook the holiday?
