We have booked a cruise for 2020, departing on the day of our 30th Wedding anniversary. We booked it through TC instead of the cruise company because the cruise company were only offering flights from Leeds to Heathrow with a 3 hour stopover and on from there. For less than a 3rd of the price for each flight we could get direct flights with Jet2. We booked through an agent as we wanted package cover in the event of an issue with the flight and having to catch up with the ship.
We have paid just under £3,000 deposit. We have an ATOL certificate which states it is a single purchase.
Do we claim though our credit card or wait for ATOL?
At what point do we rebook the holiday?
Who is the cruise with and did you book it cruise only through TC? I have seen Royal Caribbean, Fred Olsen and P&O say on the BBC feed that cruises are fine, however any flights obviously wont be.0 -

I*t never occurred to me but it looks like the full package including Jet2 flights, stopover hotels and the cruise are all booked through Travel2 and TCX only acted as Agent. I'd not even noticed until now that the ATOL certificate states Travel2. So it might all be OK.0 -
I'm a bit confused. I'm going to have to do Chargeback for some of my costs (a number on VISA). I noted I have to submit a chargeback claim within 120 days but I also have to have exhausted all avenues with Thomas Cook first. So I had a few initial questions :
1. Realistically, am I going to get anywhere with chargeback?
2. Who do I contact in TC to start the conversation
3. Could I exhaust all avenues with TC in 120 days
4. Could I argue with my Cardholder that I'm not going to get very far with the retailer and go straight to charge back?
Maybe I should just contact Barclaycard?
Thanks, Chris
We are in a similar boat,TUI have cancelled the holiday and will refund our money but when i contacted our bank ( HSBC ) to claim a chargeback on the money we spent on TC site picking our seats,ok only £60,but the bank says we must go thru ATOL to claim this money back.
Clicked on their website and it states do not try to recover any money yet as they are too busy, getting everybody home i would preume0 -
We have booked with Thomas Cook for next year but haven't actually paid any money yet as first direct debit not due until October. I'm going to cancel the direct debit but not sure what else we need to do as we don't want to claim a refund, just have confirmation that the holiday and flights are cancelled (flights are with easyJet) so we can book another.
Anyone in the same position or have further info on this situation?0 -

Did you pay a deposit? Is it 100% a Thomas Cook package holiday (flights and hotel)?
If no to the first question and yes to the second, just cancel the DD and your work is done. The confirmation is all over the news, you wont be getting any emails from Thomas Cook to confirm it. There is nobody there to send this confirmation.0 -
Nope we were going to pay slightly higher per month so we could book with £0 deposit. Flights are with Easyjet so might go to them direct to make sure they are cancelled so we can book with someone else.0

There isnt a link yet for refunds until next week, but the form is the same for all claims so you could download it and fill it in ready.0

Well the Easyjet flights will still run (were you going to Malta by any chance? They use Easyjet on a Monday from Manchester) however you being on them in all likelihood wont happen - TC probably wont have paid Easyjet for them yet. And even if you could get on the flight, once you get there would be no hotel to stay in anyway, and no transfer to get there.0 -

Flying to Portugal next June. Yes will just wait and see what comes out in the coming days, we're lucky we haven't paid anything yet really so no immediate panic needed. Just thought it was a strange position to be in!
Thanks for your help0 -
What happens if someone has booked and paid for a flight only via Thomas Cook but the airline isn't Thomas Cook? Emirates in this case?0
