Thomas Cook - what you need to know - MSE News

Hi. We bought our package holiday, including flights, through TUI but they have used Thomas Cook for the flights - ATOL Certificate is with TUI. TUI has told us that our holiday has been cancelled because of TC's sad demise and will refund us. We paid for extras on the flight, which we had to do through TC's website. Should TUI refund that for us or do we need to do something else?
You may not get them. Look at the CAA page for TC customers in Los Angeles:
https://thomascook.caa.co.uk/customers/if-you-are-currently-abroad/guidance-by-destination/usa/los-angeles-lax/
If you booked premium seats or meals you wont be getting them on the return replacement flight, nor getting a refund for them. Same may apply here."We understand that you may have arranged or paid for extras or upgrades as part of your original booking with Thomas Cook such as a premium seat or particular meal. Unfortunately, as the repatriation programme is focused on getting you back to the UK as efficiently as possible, we cannot commit to honouring these and you will not be able to claim a refund on this cost."
Travel insurance may sort that out though, but the excess may make it not worth it.0 -

There is no way Saturday and Sunday would have been busy trading days for Thomas Cook this week. With all the press coverage during the week, bookings will have collapsed.
Airlines and holiday companies usually do go bust at this time of year though. End of the busy summer season where bills are due and there is far less money coming in.0 -

They had a sale online which will have attracted quite a few people.......you'd be amazed how many people would book something0 -
We had flights booked for 2020 so obviously it is a Section 75 credit card claim for us but our insurance also covers airline failure. Morally, it will be one or the other but legally is there anything to stop people claiming on both? I don't intend to but in a wider sense, is there anything to stop you having two insurance policies on one item (eg, could you insure your home on two different policies and claim twice for one event?)0

Well that would be fraud, so give it a go if you want to.
As for Expedia, utterly useless, the guy on the phone put me through to Thomas Cook to double check if the hotel booking was still there, despite me saying there was nobody at TC anymore. He put me through anyway, only for me to get the insolvency message and then hung up on, after an hour on the phone.0 -
I had a holiday booked with Thomas cook for November, ATOL protected. However still have 2 instalments due, one of which is this wednesday, do I cancel the DD and just claim for the money already paid or leave it?0

We have the the same issue, we have got 2 holidays booked for next year and our Son and Daughter also have a holiday each. We are just wondering if we need to now cancel the DD or whats happening. Thankfully it's all ATOL protected, just need to know how to proceed.0 -

The answer is above. Cancel them. Wait for the claim form to appear on the CAA website.0
