  • Narola1976 £25 a week at Waitrose could be possible - I costed out a week for myself (on a vegan diet but with no other restrictions) to see. It ment buying dry beans to stretch out the budget, buying mostly essential products (their version of basic/smart price) and eating very simular things each day. Always porridge for breakfast for example. Dinner and lunch being something with rice or potatoes. Some items would carry over making each week after the first easier but it would be very limited to begin with though not impossible.

We have spent £10.30 since last post.

I'm having three bean chilli for dinner, love the pressure cooker makes life so easy .
OH had prosciutto cappellette for dinner.

    £154.56/£215.
    £60.44 Left.
I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy :D
  • Little spend in A1di on way home last night - needed milk and cat litter so picked up a few fresh bits to save me going again at weekend. That makes me £136/£225 with 2 weeks to go but not much needed for the next 4 or 5 days .... oooh, can this be done??
    Mortgage: £81,154.58 (03/19) - £54,849 (02/24)

Get better soon, elsiepac! FWIW I've got it too, probably from my trip to the Knitting & Stitching show last week & a crowded Tube journey back to DS1's, with people sneezing & snuffling all over the place. Just beginning to feel a little better now - breathing & swallowing have stopped being a penance!

Good morning everyone, nice and sunny here today in Vanland.
Hope you feel better soon Elsiepac and Thrift wizard.
A biggish shop done yesterday plus I'm planning on a small spend today while I'm out in town meeting up with chum, and another one Saturday, but hopefully that will do for the week ahead.
I plan to feed 3 people but it's been haphazard in numbers, been quite a few times when it's just been me and Mr van, and sometimes 3 and 4; but on Sunday I'm doing a sit down meal for 8.....the good news is that someone is bringing starters and someone else is bringing desert, so happy days!
Loving this challenge as it really makes me aware of how much we spend on food. Only £40 left in my challenge so gonna be interesting:D
    Tonight D spaghetti puttanesca
Friday D hm veg curry for me and chicken curry for mr van, rice and nan( always curry night here on Fridays! !)
Saturday D veg stir fry for me and with chicken for Mr van
Ps did anyone see 'eat well spend less' last night? I sat watching agog, so much carp went in that trolley:eek:

Do you mean "Eat Well for Less"? We recorded it, so hopefully I'll get to see it tonight. I love watching that show, even though it is schadenfreude television, because I always learn something from the episodes. I wish they did a follow-up six months later, to see how much stuck.

Hi, yes Pip, 'Eat well for less'.
I only saw the first 10 minutes last night, just caught up with the rest.
A lovely charasmatic couple who managed a terrific transformation.
I too take things away from it, and last night I think it was the peach and oat bake, looked scummy!
Ps practicing some self control today i am bagging another NSD day today although didn't think I would:j

Thanks for the well wishes everyone and sorry that you have it too Thrift Wizard!! I stayed off work again today, not feeling too bright!!

I also watched the Eat Well Spend Less show and was going to post on here about it. Their average for 2 people was £96 a week or something and they basically ate no vegetables...unimaginable to me! They were a lovely couple though and so receptive to the vast majority of the advice given! I too liked the look of that Peach and oat bake Vanlady!

Popped to shops last night for emergency fresh foods and spent £8.60. Leaving me £1.52 in the budget so I'll probably go slightly over if I'm honest.

    Budgets updated to here

£10.20 added for some bread for the freezer & some fresh bits; I'm not 100% sure of getting to the market tomorrow as I have a delivery expected, and DD2, who will be here, has just gone down with the horrible streaming cold I've just had & may not be up for answering the door in her pyjamas. (Fancy having a door in her pyjamas...!) Plus we have a guest for the early part of next week - my cousin, on his annual fly-by of us Southern softies - so I won't have my usual baking day on Tuesday, we'll be out & about instead.

One of my friends will cheerfully pick me up a few bits tomorrow morning, from the stalls that are only there on a Friday like the fishmonger, but I don't like to ask her to carry too much!

I usually watch "Eat Well for Less" but I felt really cross at what last night's couple were eating. They were both type 2 diabetic and it was literally all sugar. That jar of sweets in the cupboard. I felt really cross with them. So much so, I actually turned it off. I felt really judgemental and horrible so better to do something else. Serves me right for missing it.

Re a six month check up Pip, a family of a child DH taught did it a few years ago and after 6 months they literally eat exactly as they had before the programme :(.
