Hi, yes Pip, 'Eat well for less'.
I only saw the first 10 minutes last night, just caught up with the rest.
A lovely charasmatic couple who managed a terrific transformation.
I too take things away from it, and last night I think it was the peach and oat bake, looked scummy!
Ps practicing some self control today i am bagging another NSD day today although didn't think I would:j
I’ve just watched the episode and totally agree. A lovely couple, who changed their diet considerably and looked so much healthier as a result. This is also the first time that I can recall the show doing a follow-up, 3 months later. Bravo!!
Hopefully, they’ll publish the recipe for the peach oat bake. (It’s not on the website.) If not, well, the recipe book is on my Christmas wish list.

I have been spending again
.
Yesterday I spent £11.75 in Sainsbury's (just buying stuff for tea because I hadn't planned, and had no time)
Tonight I did a bit of a top-up shop in Tesco tonight. It includes a few bags of nuts (totalling £10.99),a 3-set of baking trays (£5.00),and toilet paper (£8.00).Total spend was ££47.97.
Ooops!!
Have now spent £245.04/£250.00 !!!!
Having done this challenge for two months,I am wondering if I have set my budget too low (£250 for a family of 6,includes kids age 17 down to 10),or if it really is doable.Maybe I really just need to knuckle down and do some serious meal planningSPC #36 :staradminx 8.SPC7=£751.10 SPC8=£651.04 SPC9=£843.00 SPC10=£872.76

That jar of sweets in the cupboard. I felt really cross with them. So much so, I actually turned it off. I felt really judgemental and horrible so better to do something else. Serves me right for missing it.
Re a six month check up Pip, a family of a child DH taught did it a few years ago and after 6 months they literally eat exactly as they had before the programme.
I agree they were a lovely couple but I wanted to give them a shake eating all that rubbish when they were diabetic. I’m partial to a flying saucer myself but that sweet cupboard was
I don’t think anyone can/will change their behaviour after one week unless the lightbulb has already gone off in their own head.
We are out of a lot of things this week; soap powder, disinfectant, dishwasher tablets, dog food, moisturiser, razors, some freezer stuff and GF bits. I have a £7 off a £50 spend for Mr T but am debating whether going there is a risk and I will overspend. May go Alddeee then Mr T.
We are over my very tiny budget but still well below our usual average monthly spend.Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%

I love watching that show, even though it is schadenfreude television, because I always learn something from the episodes. I wish they did a follow-up six months later, to see how much stuck.

Guess what popped up in my inbox? The Kindle edition of Eat Well For Less: Quick and Easy Meals is on sale for £1.99. The other e-books are all £9.99. I'm not sure when the price will go up but this one is a bargain.
Pamsdish, I agree. I think they'd had the lightbulb - the wife's diabetic eye damage was a big trigger - but they were so caught up in their habits that they didn't know where to start. And, yes, I was gobsmacked that a nurse didn't know how to apply the basics of a healthy diabetic diet. She's not that much older than me and it was definitely in the syllabus I studied.*
She had to know about the detrimental effects of consuming all that sugar, even without being diabetic. (Eating refined sugar causes a glucose spike in your blood stream, which triggers a spike in insulin, causing your blood glucose level to collapse, causing you to feel rabidly hungry again/crave more sugar. It's a vicious cycle.)

I am always getting the impression they are "proud" of how much carp they eat and how much they can "afford" to waste money, leaves me annoyed.
I watched it on I-player out of sheer curiosity yesterday evening after you'd all been talking about it. And, though I thought they were very sweet, I actually wanted to bang their heads together - they were so very child-like! They did rather remind me of my dear deceased MiL, who knew she was diabetic but "couldn't resist just" eating the fat off the edge of a steak, or chips & crisps, or meringues, trifles & sweets; she often said, "A little of what you fancy does you good!" Unfortunately it wasn't usually a little, but rather a lot, and she died of diabetic complications only a year after being diagnosed. None of us are perfect, I'm certainly not, but sometimes you do wonder whether people want to take on board what's been said to them... sorry if that's judgemental!
£13 spent on my behalf by my friend this morning, for fish & eggs, whilst I waited in for my new overlocker - which is wonderful! The rest of the week's fresh shopping will be purchased tomorrow & Sunday morning. Off to add that to my total now...Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
Well I finally got around to it... Recipes for Onion Gravy, Faggots, more faggots, and Parsnip and Cashew Nut Roast are all added to the recipe index. AND November thread is live (after all that posturing about doing it early I did it on the right day anyway haha)
As always, keep posting here until your November () budget kicks in!
I'm still off work - that's Weds, Thu and Fri I had off - but I just can't seem to shake this! Don't think I have much of a temperature anymore though so that's nice.
I have a final portion of curry that I meal prepped last Sunday for tea tonight, not that I have much appetite (and it shows, I lost 4 pounds this week! Which is good as I'm trying to lose weight lol) but apart from that no meals planned. Need to cover meals from Saturday through to Thursday all meals. Get paid Friday so new budget kicks in then. Ideally would like to have a shopping list written for Friday (and a meal plan for that week!) so that I don't do my usual thing where I get all excited that I have money in my pocket and go and spend a load without thinking it through!
Seeing as how I'm stuck in the house feeling pants, I may as well try and use my time productively by at least attempting to plan!
I really want to sort out the recipe index too and get it all categorised and labelled in a consistent way, but it's such a huge job lol. Plus, with the updated forum coming in the new year (which I've volunteered to help test so keep fingers crossed for me as I really really want to give input!) there may be an easier way to do it, so I think I'll hold out until the new forum and see.

Aaaand I've just spent another £43 at our local supermarket (W8rose) after consulting with DD2, who has gone down with the cold and is feeling very sorry for herself, and in need of much green tea with lemon. I'm involved with a volunteer thing tomorrow (Repair Cafe) so time (& energy) for shopping will be limited, so I just bit the bullet & bought the week's meat supplies there as well. It cost more than I'd like to have spent, but I'll claw it back somehow. Veg & cheese will still have to be bought tomorrow but having the meat sorted does ease the pressure.Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0
