Most people cannot comprehend what a Trillion is.
To most, it's just a word that means something a bit bigger than "millions or billions"
If you stood throwing £1 coins into a bucket at the rate of one per second, you would get to a million in just over 11 days. A trillion takes roughly 32,000 years.0 -

Public expenditure was set by the prudent (I've abolished boom and bust) Gordon Brown for much of the period. Adding 500,000 heads alone to the inefficient public sector payroll didn't come cheap. Let alone the cost to the UK taxpayer of the bail out post the GFC.0 -
OK. Who do you think is going to stand the best chance at an internship in a law firm:
A. Joe Bloggs from a council estate, single parent, no further education due to needing to watch siblings whilst mum worked.
"No further education" ?
How the heck did this person get to be a lawyer then?
Magic?
Quite apart from your use of the ridiculous, the only lawyers earning good money are those that are actually very good at what they do & previous/family wealth has nothing whatsoever to do with ability.0 -
Regarding the Financial Crash of 2008, I am sure you do not need reminding that Labour had been in power for 11 years when the Crash happened.
I would say it had a lot more to do with the bank's greed and !!!!less behavior.
Thatcher's Right To Buy has become a problem but the problem stems from local councils (both Conservative and Labour) not replacing stock like they are supposed to.
I think you will find that the councils were forbidden to use the money to build more council housing,
You must have been relatively well off in your younger days; from numerous conversations with family and friends, not a single person in my circle of acquaintances was able to afford a 3 bed semi as a FTB, yes for many that was their second home once on the property ladder but never as a first home.
We had a joint income of £60 a week. A second job raised the thousand pounds for the deposit. The mortgage was around60 pounds per month. I admit we had second-hand furniture and fridge. No washing machine or freezer. A mattress on the floor and a portable black and white tv by using green shiels stamps. I was fortunate to have a company car.
This was in the southeast of England where the same house is £300,000. That £60 would today be 60 multiplied by 300. Just do the sums. Rediculous.0 -
Tories are having a disastrous campaign. Labour are starting to get into gear. While policies like nationalising BT are causing retired stockbrokers (i.e. people who would never vote Labour in a million years) to choke on their cornflakes, they're going down rather well with "ordinary" folk.
Lib Dems looking increasingly irrelevant.0 -

Labour will need to get into a higher gear to gain votes looking at the polls.

They'd be better off calling for free dental treatment, glasses and bus passes. That would get more voters onboard.0 -

Interesting how the Tory/BXP Corp and the Labour/Lib Dem polling is very much related. Obviously the former was always true but I'm surprised the Lib Dem looks completely correlated to Labour - would have expected some remain Tories to hold their vote up even as the lefties moved to Labour.
Expect a Labour bounce with more Corbyn and Johnson airtime in the run up to the election. Strongly suspect another hung parliament is on its way.0
