Social mobility and equality are in fact much improved but you would never accept that; on balance we're all better off than we were in earlier generations.
As a Remainer, I know that things are better now than they have ever been. It's the Leavers who are trying to convince you that the Good Old Days are something that we should return to.0 -
OK. Who do you think is going to stand the best chance at an internship in a law firm:
A. Joe Bloggs from a council estate, single parent, no further education due to needing to watch siblings whilst mum worked.
B. Tarquin double-barrel, Cambridge graduate who's dad is in the same country club as the senior partner in said law firm.
Joe could potentially do a night course whilst working stacking shelves on a 0-hour contract, save the money up to invest in some kind of business such as window cleaning, and then graft on under minimum wage for a few years until he can afford to buy a knackered van and expand. But he's relying a lot more on good luck than Tarquin who happens to have the starting capital and contacts to get onto the job market a few rungs up.0 -
'vox-pop' item on Sky News last week.
Elderly man standing in some god-forgotten Northern high street with most shops boarded up thanks to a decade of Tory austerity.
He had three or four gnashers left in his mouth, probably due to a complete lack of dental care provision in the area after a decade of Tory cuts. He was muttering something about bus services being cut.
But he was going to vote Tory.
Why?
'Because he likes Boris.'
And why have we had a decade of Tory austerity ?
Because Brown spent all the money, Liam Byrne, chief secretary to the Treasury under Gordon Brown, left a note for his successor that proved to be a gift for the Conservatives.
‘I’m afraid there is no money.’
They were left to clear up the Labour mess, I would not even entertain the current crop of Labour terrorist sympathisers, corbin is a traitor, watson and abbot both next to useless, the tories are far from perfect, but do not tend to refer to hezbollah as "our freinds".I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. This leaver wants to move forward and continue making things better rather than taking the EU stance of trying to make a new federation when all such past attempts have proven to be unworkable and failed, from the Soviet Union to the Romans.0 -

And the Conservatives 'cleared it up' by increasing total public debt from 0.9 to 1.8 trillion over the past 10 years....Don't blame me, I voted Remain.0 -

Which has been a Treasurer tradition since Churchill. It's an in-joke that the Tories are grasping onto to try and make Labour look bad, not any admission of fiscal incompetence or even that there is no money left.

You’ll be pleased to know Mayo I’ve ended my trip on the gravy train a few years early. Although my ‘gold plated pension’ is incubated and ready to kick in when needed.
Lest we forget however that the architect of the public sector pension reform was a Labour Peer. Although, stop the press, it looks like Lord Hutton has made a bit of a ricket and acted unlawfully, we should know more next month.
The thing I realised very quickly in my previous job was that we traditionally got it from both sides. The Tories thought we were lazy militants and Labour thought we were jack-booted fascists.

Quite the contrary. This leaver wants to move forward and continue making things better
That just doesn't make sense. You admit that things are better now, after 40 years of being part of the European community, but somehow think they'll get better by leaving that same community?!?! :mad:Every generation blames the one before...

Can you explain how you envisage that happening?0 -
For me, this is not just about a change in policies. This has to be a fundamental change. Now 70, I can look back at far more stable and better times. I firmly believe that many of the current problems have stemmed from the Thatcher years.
Pre Thtatcher era was hardly stable and better........0
