I'll post more after Christmas when people have more time to listen :p

In the meantime ... does anyone speak reasonable Spanish? It might help my lovely OH if he could speak to someone else with experience of Aspergers ...

Wishing you all the very best Christmas :rudolf: May it be a Moneysaving one!

Part of the company I am setting up will be an IT consultancy ....... research shows that people with AS have 100% accuracy ...... we are aiming for testing / analyst work.

I'd say so. That is why I love working in IT - and particularly as a Project Manager. I've planned many perfect projects :)
Planned to within an inch of their life.

I love the project planning of complex and interrelated resources - to me it's like a giant logic puzzle. To those that give me the task it is unfathomable and impossible. I thrive on delivering the perfect solution that is bomb proof.

Sounds like you are a real asset as an employee! Most companies would love to have you on their team! :T
Would I be able to ask you a few questions just to help me? Either on this board or in a PM?

  • Hello there, found the thread the other day - our son has aspergers, dyspraxia and learning difficulties, so quite a mix of difficulties to cope with. I will be back but short term, I was telling my husband about the lovely post re going to Holland/Italy? which was really thought provoking (I spend my life saying what if), came to show him it and can't find it, can anyone help. Thanks.
If it seems too good to be true, it probably is, unless its from this forum!
  • Thanks rovers, I'm going to laminate that to remind myself that I'm not the only one who has had those thoughts! We are blessed with our very own dutchman who has brought so many tears, but also so much happiness - I'd better get a pair of clogs and start learning dutch!

Not sure if our CAMHS works differently to everyone elses..They never diagnose on a single appointment. We were seen over a few months.

First they did every questionnare known to man lol..5 different paper ones CONNERS,CHAT etc they did basic obs while we were answering all these in the room with DS3 and the whole family.

Next we had school obs by 3 different Psychs to find out more about him and long talks with any member of staff who had contact with him..icluding dinnerladies :D

Then we had the one way mirror and they also asked permission to film this so they could refer back to it if needed..This one threw up a redflag as when I left the room DS3 didn't bat an eyelid..then started bouncing, spinning, headpunching and operasinging lol...

Finally after approx 16 months we had a diagnosis..

DS3 has a combination of many different difficulties so they wanted to be sure it was Autism and not part of his 'other bits'..The main thing they are looking for is what they call the 'Triad of Impairments'(more details of this are on the NAS website) our CAMHS won't give a diagnosis of ASD,Autism or Aspergers unless they fit firmly into this criteria.
HTH best wishes for a stressfree Xmas to you all :)

It seems like every Camhs team work differently, as ours was different again. They did say that we would have 'up to 3 appointments' for the assessment, although in fact we have only had one. And the diagnosis appears to be being based on the reports from school, worryingly. If school say he displays autism-type behaviour, then he will be diagnosed. If they don't...... We are now waiting and waiting for them to make a decision. It's rather frustrating, to say the least. If we do get a diagnosis mid-January, it will have been a 12 week wait from the actual Camhs appointment, and over 18 months since our first referral from the GP.

In the meantime, Ryan is upstairs, carefully lining up his Doctor Who toys across his bedroom floor.... :A :)

Snaggles I think the 'world of autism' is moving so fast re early diagnosis etc now its so varied in different parts of the country isn't it?
Our county (Surrey) and especially our borough is 'supposed' to be leading the way *if you listen to what the LEA etc are preaching* on the ground however its a very different story for many battleweary/hardened parents...myself included :rotfl:
