Fred, there are millions of people in this world who would gladly eat your "not up to my standards" food. Stop whining and shop somewhere else. There are more important things to get worked up over.0

Vote with your feet Fred, if you despise big supermarkets (and many people do) then do as they do and shop in markets or independent shops where you can build up a relationship with the owner and staff.
It may not be as convenient but it will be better for your overall health as this issue is clearly impacting your wellbeing.0 -
I must say - this is some of the best trolling I have ever read..
Nice work Fred0 -
There are three vital questions, requiring an answer, which do not seem to have been asked yet:-
1) Have any kids been traumatised by the unsatisfactory fruit?
2) Have any kittens been harmed?
3) Has the Daily Mail been informed?0 -
others have said avoid supermarkets but of course if you used a small shop and continued in the same way they would also ban you
You would like that wouldn't you.0 -

I love these sort of threads and am always disappointed when they peter out after a few pages.
Many years ago I did a university assignment analysing fallacious arguments. Wish I'd had the benefit of this thread (and others like it) back then.0 -
They should look at the reviews and acknowledge its not a one off problem. They should be fined for false advertising if they claim their melons are fully ripe as some supermarkets do.
They shouldnt be selling such poor quality fruit in the first place. Stop blaming me and start blaming the stores. They should be held to account.
A ban is a cop out. Its also disproportionate. How would you like it if you were fined 1 million pounds for dropping a single piece of litter?
But you may be the only customer returning goods from that batch.
If nobody else is returning items from the same batch why is it always you that gets the bad product?
Accept that they do not supply the quality you want.
I shop around for my fruit and veg and buy where I get the quality I want.
So I buy specific items in different shops where I know I prefer the product from that store.0 -
Fred put yourself in the position of the shopkeeper (small or large), what would you do if the same customer kept coming back for refunds ?
Look at this article:
https://www.thekitchn.com/5-tips-for-picking-perfect-melons-tips-from-the-kitchn-63939
It says Sometimes this choice feels more like a leap of faith, where you cross your fingers and hope for the best.
So I'm not being fussy. It really is a gamble when buying certain fresh items like melons. People have been intimidated into believing that if they try to return such items, especially repeatedly, then they will be seen as a nuisance. But the truth is, you have the right to reject items that are not satisfactorily. You should have the right not to be bullied. Often the store policy states its YOUR satisfaction that counts not theirs. You are given the benefit of the doubt but only for as long as the retailer decides to. That is deceitful of them. If they require a higher level of evidence then it should be required of everybody, everytime not just after a certain time. Its moving the goalposts.
They dont assume every person is a scammer from the start. They only form that view after youve gone back a certain number of times and its all decided based on things like your appearance, mannerisns, body language, facial expressions, clothing and nothing to do with the facts of the matter. Its discrimination. A well spoken middle aged English woman might have the upper hand over say a young scruffy teenager that uses slang.
If they want evidence, they need to state what counts as evidence because "my or your satisfaction" is ambiguous.
They should be required by law to comply with their policy once its fixed and made unambiguous. If they don't they should be penalised.
If they have offered refunds in the past for an item and suddenly decide to stop, then they need to be able to explain how they decided that. Goodwill is just a euphemism for discrimination.
The fact that you can ban somebody avoids all these inconveniences but thats just a loophole that needs to change so that consumers have more protection from such selfish malicious acts.0 -
Fred, this is all pointless.
If the store dont want to serve you they dont have to.
It wont matter how many times you say it nothing is going to change.
Is this whole thread really over the ripeness of melons at your local store?0
