consumer rights farce

its not a goodwill. Its a right. Everything you buy should be satisfactorily. Just because all of you lot can't tell or dont care about the quality of your fruits and veg doesn't mean I should settle for your low standards.
Ive probably lost hundreds of pounds worth of food thats gone in the bin all because it was unfit and I didnt return it. Whos being scammed?
Yes, of course it should be satisfactory, but it does seem that your definition of what constitutes "satisfactory" seems to be on a very different level to that of the supermarket, and therefore they have asked you to find a supplier who can meet your exacting expectations of food quality.
No rights have been harmed, no body has been scammed.(Although I could be wrong, I often am.)0 -
Supermarkets promise fruit and veg that is not merely edible but of the highest standards. So the onus is on them to prove this. I have a right to expect the high standards they promise. That is the whole point of these refund policies its a guarantee of quality. To accuse me of scamming the policy is a cop out which maximises the profits of the supermarkets. They know that they would be losing profits if they end up with a big batch of fresh produce that is of poor quality. The answer? ban people that do excessive returns and limit the number of returns received per day.0

They do provide the quality that is acceptable to me much of the time. I buy far more than I return. Is that not evidence?
Why would I profit from insisting on purchasing substandard food and returning it? If I take that product back, I am spending my time to go there and face humiliation just to get my money back. Thats not a gain its a loss.
But you wasn't returning it. You was phoning up to get a gift card posted to you and no doubt still eating the food.0 -
You have been banned from your usual supermarket. I am actually surprised the supermarket didn't ban you earlier. They are within their rights to do this.
Learn from this and MOVE ON! Only return fresh food if it is mouldy or rotten and this happens within 24 (perhaps 48 at a push) hrs or before a best before or sell by date and then when it is a major item. Do not return 2 grapes from a bunch or a small potato from a large bag.
Bear the above in mind when you choose your new supermarket. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

Why are you finding it so difficult to understand the definition of satisfactory when applying it to the quality of goods?
They are satisfactory if they meet the expectations of a reasonable person (and from your comments on here, you appear to be anything but reasonable) and the price paid can be taken into account.
It's not that hard (for a reasonable person) to understand.
If you want higher quality fruit and vegetables, don't buy from a low price mass turnover supermarket.
Instead, buy them from a high quality greengrocer where you will get just what you want although at a far higher price.0 -

I think the OP may be better off at Mumsnet.

Schools start to return next week so Fred will have to find something else to fill his time and his packed lunch box.0

@Fred - can you give me a refund for my time I've spent reading this thread?
Whilst its been very amusing, I was expecting non-fiction, and what I've ended up with has been complete fiction and, if I'm honest, not acceptable. Most of the threads I read are acceptable, and I have no problem with those, but I'd like you to take back all of the above because it doesn't meet the criteria of what a sensible person would accept as non-fiction. And I know my rights!
If you let me know what number I can call you on, I'll give you a tinkle and you can let me know how you'll arrange to let me get my time back.0 -

It cant be a very different level it cant be far off.
Supermarkets are known for advertising the high standards of their produce. They are very selective about size shape and taste. So the targets they set are high. They're just not meeting the targets because its not possible to. I accept that. And when the target isnt met, why should the consumer lose their money?
If you cant honour a guarantee, then dont mislead the public.
Why are you excluding the possibility that they're the ones scamming me and I'm actually right?
Is it the excessiveness? Is it because few other people complain like I do? how do you know Im not a scapegoat for the real scammers?
You dont appear to appreciate that growing fruit and veg to the same standards is not easy.
I often see boxes of fruit or veg in supermarkets that nobody buys because they have defects. All those boxes have to be discarded and cant be sold. Its really not that rare for fruit and veg to be defective.0 -
But you wasn't returning it. You was phoning up to get a gift card posted to you and no doubt still eating the food.
you don't know that. I'm allowed to eat it or throw it away makes no difference. Being edible is not good enough. It needs to be better than merely edible!0
