Shell energy broadband - any feedback from recent joiners ?

  • Shell energy broadband is so full of tricks and clauses to get around its promises it really is a very shady deal. They try to get around the MSE deals which promises no cease charge. I really think that MSE should not recommend dealing with this shower in the future. Promising no increase in charges then hitting us with an 5 times above inflation price rise that is supposed to be because of CPI. Bills that are very difficult to understand
  • I joined shell broadband recently having seen the deal broadcast on the 26/11 only to find out it doesn’t exist.

I used the link on this website but was put on a 18 month contract not a 12 month one as broadcast, I have queried this with the provider and they never had 12 months contracts.

Also the cancellation fees are ridiculous £18.50 per month, it’s a real pity these were not highlighted during the program aired and on this website.

Can’t wait to leave this sewer driven scamming company.

Some answers are needed from this website and the program makers.

I am very happy with Shell and may even stay with them after my 12 months are up but if i do leave i will see if they try and charge me a cease fee but i have plenty of screenshots if that happens,They also paid my £120 bill credit bang on time .
  • NIce to see 1 happy customer, I guess most happy customers dont leave feedback?

Am a bit worried about going with Shell if they're as bad as is made out on here though.
What do you advise, good MSE'ers?
    Friendly greeting!

Yet to find out on the 1st Feb.

I find that people who are not happy are more likely to post this as a way of venting.  People who are happy with the service, don't, as its what they expect from the service.

I was warned against Post Office broadband last year, but never once had an issue (contract ended, so moving to a new cheaper one).

Nothing wrong with Shell for £14.99 whats  not to like? .Use your own router, change dns  and  set router to use 5g. Never drops below 36mbps unlike Sky, EE or Plusnet. Billing is rubbish tho they seem to quote everything less VAT including cashback.

Heads up on shell as a customer
Joined about 16 months ago via this site but at that time the vat was extra after I joined, wasn't happy
It would now appear its included
My bill is now £24 a month so I phoned late last week citing I had no work was at home and was there anything they could do to help (its currently on offer here for £17
After being told by 2 advisors that I had been written to in October it was going up there was nothing they could do even though I told them my circumstances had changed
A cold heartless couldn't give a fig company ,the only thing they offered me was a cancellation at no cost as they charge a fee for this normally
Wow betide all the new oldies from the post office account they are going to scoop up this week
I'm leaving them with a nasty taste in my mouth

I am looking to sighn up to shell via the MSE link:
it says effective monthly charge £14.66 effective cost per month after cashback etc.
BUT when you follow the link and go to sign up it appears different amounts (below)
""Superfast Fibre Estimated max speed, £27.99 per month
£30.99 per month Includes 3 months bill credit, 18-month minimum term
Line rental included, No connection fee, Unlimited downloads, Exclusive rewards""
concerned as this does not in any way quite to£14.66??
did anyone face this issue when trying to signup?

Had the same issue. You definitely end up paying more. Feel like I've been conned. Also, they increased their prices last month mid-term after promising never to increase prices mid-contract.

Their updated router is fine (dual band) and not have any issues nwith speed or connectivity. However, I'll be changing provider when my contract is up.

Also, I like other, was unable to keep my previous telephone number (they do not make this clear). Apparently it's cheaper for them to give you a new one.

    Hi BaZza81,
This is a new deal that we've Blagged and it went live this morning, so there may have been a brief overlap in the deals you were seeing.

The deal that went live this morning is Shell Superfast Fibre. £22.99/mth + you get an auto £100 bill credit within 3mths. Factor that in and it's equiv £14.66/mth over the 12-month contract. You can view it here:

    https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/broadband-and-tv/cheap-broadband/#fibretable

    I hope this helps explain.
    Thanks,
    MSE Chris
