  • I've recently switched away from Shell Energy Broadband, having joined them via the MSE switching service in October 2019. I was a few days over my minimum contract, but they've still slapped a "cease" charge on my final bill. I'll wait till they've taken the final payment and then start the painful process of contacting them. I suspect I may be needing the assisting of Chris at MSE, going by previous comments.
Pretty sure they're deliberately doing it and hoping customers don't notice or they don't know it's meant to be free as part of the MSE deal.
I would let them know and from experience they'll more than likely fail to reply or fob you off, then wait 8 weeks and go to the ombudsman, the tidy sum they charge shell should do the trick and one day they'll realise it's cheaper to waive the £15 than to get slapped with a few hundred by the ombudsman

    Hi all,
Newbie on the site. Just wanted to share my experience of trying to joining Shell Energy Broadband.

So, on Wednesday 25th Nov, I came on to this website & saw the Shell Fibre broadband offer. £23.99 p/m on a 12-month contract. Bill credits of £47.98 + £60 = £107.98. So the total for the year is £179.90 which works out £14.99 per month. Too good to be true.

But I went ahead & signed up by 9 am. Received  confirmation email almost immediately. But no mention of bill credits. I sent them an email to ask about that & also to see if could move the "go live" date to January when my existing Onestream JetStream Fibre contract expires. Automated email said, they're busy, "large volume of emails" & will get back to me ASAP.

Yesterday (26th Nov) I received an email saying Direct Debit all setup (of course!). But no reply to my email. So I used their online chat facility & eventually chatted to someone. And surprise, surprise, only £47.98 bill credit. The person knew nothing about the additional £60 bill credit. If I took up this offer, I'd end up paying £19.99 p/m which is higher than the £18.99 offered by Onestream for renewing with them. As I'm still within the 14 day "cooling off" period, I was able to cancel the Shell sign up.

Perhaps I misunderstood the Shell offer. Does the additional £60 bill credit offer only apply to those who have taken up Shell Energy electricity & gas deals?  I'd be amazed if anyone is successful in getting the full £107.98 bill credit. As one can only find out AFTER it is installed etc., I think it's a bit risky!

Hope folks finds my experience useful.

That is the standard deal offered and on MSE comparison site;  no need for other utilities.

My Post Office BB runs out on 16 Dec 2020, which goes from £17.99 (£22.99 including £60 voucher) to a whopping £37 a month, So I came here to find the best deal. Shell Energy seems to be the best deal. £15 a month (including £60 + £47.98 bill credit). The problem is: when I click on 'Get Deal' and start filling in the application, it tells me that the £60 has already been deducted and the monthly charge is £23.99. with £47.98 bill credit, that's £20 a month. £5 a month more than the advertised fee. The offer runs out tomorrow 29 November 2020.
    Have I missed something?
I'm thinking of just staying with the Post Office. They do a deal for £24 a month. I'm fairly happy with them. Just a couple of dropouts, over the past year. It's £9 a month more but sometimes it's better the devil you know. I get about 20Mb download and approx. 10Mb upload. Better when VPN is switched off. It does most of the things I need but I'm always looking for a bargain.

When I click at the link provided by MSE website, it said: £47.98 + £60 bill.

But it only shown £60 credit bill. I did not see £47.98

I've just had a nightmare few months with Shell Energy gas and electric. I left them because of their incompetence in setting up my account but had so much difficulty in communication. They charged me a £100 exit fee even though I left within the 14 days. They only responded after going through Reslover complaint system.

Broadband sign up was straightforward with no issues and works well.

I am Just getting to the stage of expecting my £120 cash back for my MSE broadband sign up. Dreading sorting it out it if it doesn't come through.

How is everyone going with the auto bill credits within 3 months?
I'm not quite at 3 months yet but don't expect anything without a fight with these clowns.
    Hopefully I'll be surprised.

    Hi,

So, following the expiry of the previous promo yesterday, there is a new promo wef from today (30th Nov) to 9th Dec.
Now version 5.1.22 of the terms state explicitly that the bill credits will be £60 for standard, £107.98 for Fibre & £113.98 for Fibre+ broadband respectively for those who sign up via MSE for the 12-month contract.

With these bill credits, the price per month for the 3 packages, comes to £14.99, £15.00 & £17.49 oer month respectively. I must admit these prices are very tempting.

    Hope this helps others.

Just had a look at the new deal on MSE. It says £15 effective monthly cost.
Clicked on 'Get Deal'. Started filling in details and it says the monthly costs would be £23.99. That's a big difference from £15 a month.
Still looks like I'm sticking with PO Broadband.

The price is £23.99 pm then minus the credit  averaged over 12 months.
