If you have actually earned 4 years no claims bonus as of the renewal previous to the the claim then if you had a claim your no claims bonus would be reduced to 4 years unless you had paid extra for no claims bonus protection. If the Insurers subsequently recovered their outlay from the claim from the other party they would reinstate your no claims bonus and refund any extra premium you paid due to the reduction of the no claims bonus

Looks like this is only if you have another car - either your own or a company. It wouldn't let me complete the quote without entering the details of my other car...

just phoned up this morning to check the same quote over the phone with the internet price and it was. and includes the below as well, so far it has come back cheapest quote for car insurance with free below as well, so still looking around if anything else if not will go with these as this is £25 cheaper than the insurance we have now plus she was going to buy breakdown cover as well but with this included in price seems very 'Homestart' good :-)
ring this number instead of the one on web page that i found on sayno web site 0800 4794507

Footman James’ modern private car insurance policies include as standard; • European & UK Breakdown cover
    • Homestart
    • Motor Legal Expenses
    • Personal Injury due to Road Rage & Carjacking
    • Emergency European Travel Cover

    i used Quotezone search engine
    http://www.quotezone.co.uk/carinsurance.htm
and Footman james came out the cheapest with the extras plus Voluntary Excess: £ 150.00
says insurer Royal & SunAlliance - UK
  • In response to dacouch post #732, so when you make a claim do you actually only loose that years no claim bonus or the whole 4 years previous to accident plus that current year, sorry, only i had an accident in 2006 which was my fault, i assumed that the whole lot was lost so when it came up to my next years renewal after the accident i told them i had 0 no claims bonus, is that correct or should i have told them the 4 previous years?

Im sorry im not into this at all and if it is correct then for this years renewal which is coming up on the 18th of this month then i should be telling them 4 years from previous to my claim then 2007-2008 + 2008-2009 which is a total of 6 years altogether, is this right????

There looks a typo in post 732!!

In the event of a claim you get no NCD added for the year in which you claim, and lose 2 years for each claim. So at renewal in 2006 if you started the insurance (in 2005) with 4 years, one claim meant that you had 2 years NCD at renewal.

Whatever NCD you say you have now will have to be proved to an insurer.
  • GOT IT!!! Brilliant thank you, last question then, how do i backtrack to all my previous insurance companies since 1999 because i will now need to get each years NCD off each company and then work out which years to knock off and then do my renewal....i know im silly for not keeping track of them.

Is it even possible to do this? I know that i will probably now need to start again as i have been giving wrong info in regards to how many NCD years i had, not good on my behalf as i have been quoting less than i actually have!!! :(

Presuming you have lost your renewal notices, all you can do is write to the companies involved, but going back 10 years is going to be difficult!
