Hi Iam a 55 year old driver with a good driving record, loads of no claims bonus etc. Recently I renewed my car insurance online (I thought succesfully).
However, just after confirming all details inc. ncb I noticed that I had entered the wrong details for my one motoring endorsement and wrote to the insurance company to explain the mistake.
I heard nothing for six weeks and thought they had accepted my mistake.
The company has now stung me for another 170 pounds premium 'including a non disclosure fee as detailed in our terms of business'
Iam furious because the mistake didn't materially alter anything. I want to cancel the policy but am not sure what to do and the possible dangers beyond the loss of the normal one off 50 quid cancellation fee.0 -
Well, I've just been through the process, got some quotes from the comparison websites, as well as Aviva and Direct Line. Apart from some company I've not heard of, Aviva came out cheapest by some £40, then added Quidco of £70, so I'm only paying £130 instead of £240.
One major issue with Aviva, though - they store your card details online, so that they can renew your insurance automatically, unless you remember to tell them not to.
And I'm struggling to work out how to download my policy - when I login, there's a link to generate it. When I click on the link, it says it will take 10 minutes to generate. When I go back, there's no link to download the document, just the same link to generate it, when I click, it says will take 10 minutes...:wall:Jumbo

I have had a quote from my present insurer Prudential for a new Honda Jazz which is for £160. I can get a similar quote with Esure and get cashback, making it £90. However Prudential are offering a new clause. Basically if you make a claim and it is not your fault and the driver of the car which hits you is uninsured, you will not lose your NO Claims discount or pay any excess. Where I live there are a fair amount of boy racers and old cars so I am not sure whether to play safe.
Are other insurance companies offering this? Is it worthwhile paying the extra for this protection? Anyone any experience of this?0 -

Hi Everyone,
I have a bit of a desperate question.
My boyfriend had an accident last night after someone crashed into the back of his car. It was the other driver's fault and they accepted liablity and gave my boyfriend their insurance details. It looks like my boyfriend will be able to get his car fixed and a courtesy car in the meantime. However, the problem is his car is wrongly still registered at his parent's address on his car insurance. His parents sorted out his insurance when he lived at home. They always deal with it and it auto renews, so it remains at his parent's address despite him having moved out. He only realised this mistake when he came to look at his policy yesterday for the first time since it was set up. He had wrongly assumed it had been updated since he moved. Basically we're just wondering now what is going to happen when he tells his insurance company that he has moved and has forgotten to update his address.
Will he be penalised/have his insurance cancelled or will he have to pay backdated insurance?
If you have any info please let me know. Thanks!0 -
The Insurers will still pay for the claim, if its a more expensive area they are likely to want you to pay the difference in premium.
It could delay the claim slightly while they look into it.
The department that deals with the claims is seperate to the dept that deals with accidents, if your worried why not ring and change the address over BEFORE you report the accident. This will normally avoid the delays. Its not unusual for someone in your situation to forget to advise of a change of address and then notice it when you have an accident so it will not normally cause a major issue if you do it this way.0 -

*This should probably be in the Vent thread*
What an almighty waste of time, searching for cheaper car insurance is! I have faffed around for days, doing evening searches of comparison websites and getting individual quotes.
They all prevaricate on the final price - no matter how cheap the original quote, once you start stipulating the particular conditions that need to apply to you - even if you think you already did that, on the initial application! - they all start hiking up the premium.
It makes a nonsense of using a comparison site, the results are meaningless.
After all that waste of time, I find that my renewal quote from my existing insurer is the cheapest! Pah!
And don't get me started on cashback sites! I would never buy a car policy, based on what these cockamamey sites say they will pay you. Half the time, they don't come up with the money...it would be foolish to rely on it.
Whilst I'm in Victor Meldrew mode, can I just say what an amazing rip off I find the cost of car insurance to be? Other insurance costs may go down due to competition, but the cost of car insurance goes up, and up, and up... because it is compulsory (well for the law-abiding among us), so they basically have you over a barrel.
Hate the whole thing!!!!!!0 -
I've just renewed my car insurance, but this time, to keep costs low, I opted against legal protection. Am I wise to do so? It would cost an extra £20, and my thinking was that, should there be any dispute over an accident I am involved in, I could either go to CAB, or surely the insurance company would put up a fight on my behalf to save themselves money?0
