I wanted to stay with Tesco for the Club card points,

Lucy locket, this is something ive queried with tesco, as im with them, and ive never been able to get a straight answer.

I have been told that I should get 1 point for each £2 of premium, (so half the rate of points from a usual shopping trip, but better than nothing!) and its been an oversight that its not been applied, and will be applied to my next clubcard statement, but never seem to get them showing on my statements.

Then I call and get told it was just 'a promotion' done at certain times, and thats why its not been applied!

Have you always got club card points for your car insurance? Can anyone else with Tesco car insurance shead any light on this for me?

(seems to depend who you speak to at the call center, as to what answer I get!)

    Thanks
  • I have been looking for decent insurance for my 17yr old who is a learner driver. I have come across Collingwood insurance who do a flexible scheme for L drivers where they can be personally insured to drive any one car fully comp for about £60 per month if referred by their ADI.

The policy is renewed on a monthly or tri-monthly basis. This would appear ideal if you want to allow a son or daughter to drive your car as it should not impact on your insurance should an accident occur. They can be supervised by anyone legally allowed to do so but once they have passed their test though, the insurance cannot continue.

Having had a look at the policy details it seems a very good deal on the face of it. But .... does anyone know of this company or has anyone used them for insurance as I am seriously considering taking out a policy?

(Hooray! I have just broken my posting virginity!) :j

It sounds a good deal but the devil is always in the detail. Which Insurance company is it underwritten by
  • According to their blurb, Collingwood Learner Driver insurance is underwritten by Collingwood Insurance Company Limited. They are EEA insurers and are a Gibraltar based company who are authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Commission (FSC). They are members of the Association of British Insurers (ABI) They also belong to the Finacial Services Compensation Scheme. The cover is Fully Comp. Getting good info from thier website and sister websites isnt that easy - either that, or I am a computer numpty! (probably the latter, as my last computer was an etch-a-sketch

    Had a look at this.

You need to bear in mind that their policy is ONLY FOR LEARNER DRIVERS, once he passes his test he will need a different sort of policy that will probably be upwards of £1500.

So that you can budget properly I would suggest you get quotes for when he passes his test so you do not get a shock as it is expensive.

You should also check with them what happens when he passes his test eg is the cover immediately invalid or do they allow a period of time for him to arrange alternate cover.

As an Insurer they are gibralter based which means you do not get quite get the same protection as a uk based Insurer.

I would recommend you check the policy excess.

Its seems a fairly good policy and is a great idea to help people learn to drive at a reasonable cost. The owners of collingwood have done well to come up with it and set up an insurance company as even in Gibralter it still needs a fair amount of funds.

JUST REMEMBER IT IS A POLICY FOR HIM TO LEARN

When you get your policy as with any policy read it and if your not sure on anything ask them

Many thanks for that, much appreciated.
  • Is £2.5k normal to insure a small car? (Peugeot 106 w/ 1.1 engine) from someone who passed thier test about 1 year ago? I am 20 in June and male.

First time insurance and not got any claims or points or anything. I tried GoCompare which seem the cheapest. I am going for 3rd party T&F.

Why are people saying they are insuring cars cheaper at 17? I must be doing summit wrong.

Try getting quotes on comprehensive cover as its often cheaper, if you have a girlfriend try it with and without her on it as it often reduces the premium

    Try a local broker

That's way too much. Keep trying, tesco compare can be quite good. Keep the insurance in your name, and add parents as additional drivers if you can. This halved my quote, although the logic behind it baffles me, but hey, it works.

Mine was £248 @ Admiral via tesco compare, for a N reg 1.5D 106 diesel. I was 23 when I got it, and it was my first insurance in my own name, was well impressed.
