First time insurance and not got any claims or points or anything. I tried GoCompare which seem the cheapest. I am going for 3rd party T&F.
Why are people saying they are insuring cars cheaper at 17? I must be doing summit wrong.

Hey, have you tried Pegasus Insurance, they gave me the best price of £167 when I was 19 on my first carMind you, that was 20 years ago, oh and they don't exist anymore, anyway hope this helps

Pegasus are no longer around as they were the absolute pits at paying claims, they were bought out I believe by Highway.
Thanks though for bringing them up, you brought back some memories for me...0 -

Ignore my previous post, I was just having a larf,
Try www.thamescity.co.uk - get a quote on-line and then phone them up to see if you can get a better deal - they're usually very good for young drivers. All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0 -
I have max ncd and until last year was main insured and registered driver of our car with my wife as second named driver. We then changed cars ( and registered it in her name ) and she found an amazing deal with the AA ( they allowed her a massive ncd ) with me as second driver. My concern now is how do I keep my ncd intact. At some stage will I actually need to insure a car again in my own right?0

Sounds far too much. When I was 20, I got fully comp on a 1.1 Peugeot 205 in my own name for £386 with 0 no-claims, that was with Endsleigh. I think the cost of insurance has gone up since then though.0 -
WARNING WARNING!! FOLLOWING THIS ARTICLE ADVICE INITIALLY SAVED £15 BUT ACTUALLY HAS COST ME AN EXTRA £133!!!
My insurance with A&L (Equity Red Star) was due at the end of Jan, the notice quoted £236, I read and followed through the money saving article but just couldn't get anywhere near this (£400+) but as mentioned in the article I went back to A&L's own website as a new customer and it quoted £221, First Direct were the only other similar quote £223 but I decided to stay with A&L and paid the full £221.
On the 9 Feb I rec a letter saying they had yet to rec my renewal notice and proof of no claims - I had sent them anyway but called them to say you do have them and also because you were my previous insurers!
They looked into it and started givng me jargon about the fact that I had undercut myself and that wasn't allowed - I had apparently missed the small print where it said that you couldn't come in as a new customer if you already had insurance with them.
After numerous phone calls it turned out that since the original quote of £236 had now expired (by two weeks) they could no longer homour it and looking at the premium they now want an additional £133!! I was obviously furious and very frustrated at this but they said either I pay or have to cancel - (but I wouldn't have to pay a cancellation fee - very good of them!) I really couldn't understand why within two weeks there is such a difference in the premium but thinking about it, on Boxing day I bumped a parked car, no damage that I could see, but the owner said they would make a claim anyway! -their letter from their insurers came and I sent it to A&L within those two weeks of expiry and now this has happened - co-incidence? I wonder how much my additional premium would have been had I not sent them the claim letter?
I wish I had just changed to First Direct but even then they are still Equity Red Star!
Has anyone out there ever had anything similar happen to them?0 -
My son is in the armed forces and is going abroad for a few months, so he decided to sell his car as it would not be getting used. So he calls his insurance company to cancel (been with them two years) and they say his cooling off period has passed by two days so it will be £261 to cancel. that's one months premium plus the full breakdown cover and full legal cover payment, then the admin fee brings it to £261................. is this right. they have offered too drop it by £50 but only as a good will gesture0
