Car Insurance Article Discussion

It's quite a complicated equation and getting quotes is a labourious hassle.
I don't want a car but may need to drive to Spain with a van one day and it may prove cost effective to get the cheapest (most all round economic) car to maintain my full NCB. I would love to have a trusted someone have me as name driver for a year. (Would it take a year to set my NCBup for another 3 dormant years?) I get 3 yrs from CIS.
It's not in the Insurer's interest as I will still be losing familiarity with my driving skills. Any ideas?0 -
Being a named driver won't help keep your NCD alive. You need to be the policyholder!0
-
There are some insurance companies who do allow named drivers to start collecting NCDs... I can't remember which one it is now but was advertised on the telly. One of the big ones I think... maybe Direct Line? Will try and fine out and let you know.0

Sorry if this should be a new post.
If so, how do I achieve it?
When I said named driver, I also meant whatever it takes to have me accepted as insured and accruing NCD.
Must I be the registered keeper too?
I logged up decades of safe claim free driving that is due to be literally, discounted.0 -
Hi, Aaah, the banner with 'new post' has appeared. I thought I was reg'd. when not so. An accident!... ooooops. That's my MSE NCD lost.0

Hi All
need sum advice please?
Sold the car last year and had built up 9 years NCD. My understanding is you can have a gap of 2 years before losing these, true?
Well the dilemma is do I buy a car before the 2 years is up to benefit from the NCD I have?
OR
Just wait until I want a new car, which at the moment I am in no rush to do, then pay the extra on the insurance?
How much roughly would the difference be? If it gonna be big, say over £500/yr extra on the insurance then obviously I would be better getting a cheap run around just to keep the full NCD.
I look forward to anyones views or experience on this?
thanks in advance

I was insured with Sheila's Wheels last year as they were very competitive for me. This year my renewal came and after doing the usual comparisons again their's was a good price. In the renewal pack was an insert about revisions to the policy. One of them was that yes your are insured to drive other people's cars - subject to their permission but with one exclusion, your husband or partner's car. I called and checked this thinking maybe I'd be fully comp on his but No not covered at all. The one car in the world that I'm most likely to drive other than my own and I'm not insured. It seems that Sheila's Wheels want women drivers but now they mean single women drivers and not those in relationships!
Be warned.0 -
Helen most husbands and wives are named drivers on their partners insurance so are fully covered by the vehicles policy.
If your not already named driver on your husbands policy it would be worth adding yourself, it normally reduces the premium0 -
Just reinsured partners car
My car is with admiral so asked for a quote with there multi-car policy
This didn't sound great compared with other comparison sites
So looked further and found elephant quoting £40 less than the multicar and other offers. £190 instead of £230
Elephant is sister company of Admiral !!!
Beware multicar offer ??0
