Are they really, I want one?! hehe My Mum and I, both got quotes for our renewals this month, a vehicle each and both policies have gone up by £100, I can find a cheaper quote for my Mum however I am struggling, I wouldn't mind but my car has gone down in value and my no claims has gone up.... baffling.....0 -
Just been getting quotes for my 82 year old father for insurance on his Focus today. No changes to his circumstances from last year, so a full NCB and no convictions (I think his only accident claim was when he skidded on ice in his Cortina in 1965!).
He was disappointed with his renewal quote - a 35% increase on last year. When I got a quote online, the same company (LV) was quoting 59% more than last year and they were still the cheapest!
Many were quoting over £1000 for a policy limited to 4000 miles a year - that's 25p per mile just for insurance. It makes petrol at £1.30 a litre look inexpensive.
Insurance companies seem reluctant to take on elderly drivers, even those with an exemplary driving record. Those that do appear to be able to charge what they like, and my experience today suggests getting quotes online is a waste of time. Does anybody have any alternative recommendations?0 -
Hi there, im 32 and have been driving since I was 17 and I have never had any claims.
I have got my renewal for this year and its gone up from approx £350 to £625, this is for third party fire and theft, as my car is only worth around £1000.
I have shopped around and cannot get a better price than my renewal, one company wanted over £2000!
My father has said he will put myself and my car on his policy, to reduce the cost, however no one will give me a straight answer to the following,
1.what happens to my no clamins bonus, will I be able to keep these in my name on his policy, as in time, I may wish to get my own policy again.
2.If so will I be then able to transfer my ncb back to my own policy when I get my own policy again.
I just dont want to cut my nose to spite my face, in time to come if an insurer says ive lost all my ncb by doing the above.
Hope someone can help as ive had conflicting information up to now!

1. Your NCB cannot be used on a policy in your father's name. Most insurers will only take NCB that is two years old, so if you don't take out a policy in your own name it will be lost after this time.
2. If you do take out a policy in your own name during the 2 years you will find most insurers will accept it.
It isn't straightforward for your father to insure a car that he doesn't own, so make sure he knows what he is doing.0 -
Hi
Was wondering if anyone could recommend any Car Insurers please
My husband will be policyholder as I already own a car, I willbe named driver, I have been driving for 15 years husband 10 both have over 9 years NCB with proof
I have had quotes but the cheaper ones seem to have the worse reviews obviously, and I dont know what to do!!
Clearly I do not want to pay over the odds but would like some recommendations on who to go with
Thankyou in advance
I am currently with aa who at the moment seem fine but havent had to use them for anything so far (fingers crossed) lolI love a Bargain :beer:0 -

Try getting a qupte in your own name for comprehensive cover0 -
Car Insurance is with First Alternative.
Been with them for 4 or 5 years.
Full NCD etc.
Now have to claim due to an accident.
My policy notes that I have not disclosed any convictions.
However I have a speeding conviction from just under 5 years ago.
How likely is this going to effect them from covering any claims.
Regards

Tell them you have noticed this omission. They may want some extra premium over this, but unless they never insure people with speeding convictions, or they believe you deliberately kept quiet, you should be ok.0

Thank you for taking time to reply, it is a genuine mistake, didn't really interpret 'convictions' as speeding, although I seem the only person who hasn't heard of this interpretation !!!
Just wondering what advantage I might gain by prompting the information.
Cannot help thinking that once I tell an operative they are then compelled to start a process which might then effect this claim.
But I certainly hope you are correct.0 -
Most insurers will check out everything (including your "profile") when faced with a claim. So it's your call whether to volunteer the mistake or await a call!0
